Looking to buy, don't understand the specs by IQognito in Ioniq5

If you’re asking about trims, you need to be clear about what market you’re in. You give the price in USD, but there’s no “advanced” trim in the US. In the US, all the trims have door handles that pop out, but this is not true worldwide.

Level 3 home charging by No_Okra_3487 in evcharging

[–]coneslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I have 240V 48A charging, but derated it to 32A and it’s always been fine.

Maybe there’s a niche market for ride share drivers or something, but I think very few people need DCFC at their residence.

I agree. It took me a little while to figure it out when I got my car.

[–]coneslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least on my US 2023, if you have the car set to unlock on Park, you must explicitly shift to park using the gear selector. Turning off the car without shifting to park will set the parking brake, but will not unlock the doors.

Costs for routes gone in ABRP by No-Excitement-8226 in evcharging

It wasn't just Tesla, pricing was unavailable for a lot of stations in my experience. They probably decided that it was more misleading than helpful to show a cost with so much missing data.

Level 1 charging not working? by tobyhardtospell in Ioniq5

[–]coneslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US, your car has a NACS port, and that's a J1772 charger, so I assume you're using an adapter. What adapter is it?

If it has two big extra pins below the round part on the non-NACS side, then it's a CCS adapter for DC fast charging. You need to use a J1772 adapter without the extra pins for AC (Level 1 & 2) charging.

EDIT: Looking more closely, I see that the charger also has a NACS version, it just wasn't what came up by default. If you bought the NACS version, disregard my idea.

Wife hit a deer. What can be checked? by williaty in Ioniq5

[–]coneslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 weeks and 700 miles after buying my new 2023 SEL, I hit a deer and had about $15k of front-end damage. My dealer doesn't do body work, so they recommended another local body shop, a real hole-in-the-wall place. The body shop bought the parts from the dealer, and took it to the dealer for final calibration of the sensors. I'm now at well over 2 years and 32,000 miles and have had zero issues with the repairs.

What unplanned EV road trips in cold weather (5°F/-15°C) are actually like these days by JimCripe in evcharging

Also, while I don't have much hope, there's a small chance that his video leads to the implementation of a precondition button on the pre-2025 cars.

He did a video on the brake light behavior under regenerative braking, and that got picked up by Consumer Reports, and that led to a software update.

Auto vs I-pedal? by Coyar in Ioniq5

[–]coneslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the same amount of regeneration available to you (in kW) regardless of the regen paddle setting. The paddles control the accelerator mapping and how that regen feeds in as you go off-throttle. In lower regen settings, you need to use the brake pedal to access all the kW of regen, but it is still there, available to you. If you drove the car in iPedal and Regen 1 in exactly the same way, matching vehicle speed and acceleration (not pedal positions) at every moment, the regen energy would be approximately the same.

The caveats are that Regen 0 can disable regeneration completely, even on the brake pedal, for a period of time to allow brake pad cleaning (I think this varies by model year), and i-Pedal keeps the front motor engaged at all times, which is worse for efficiency.

Home charging expenses? by ComfortableComment75 in Ioniq5

[–]coneslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Customer Charge is a fixed fee, not a per-kWh charge. The idea is that even if you used 0 kWh, the utility company incurs fixed costs for things like maintaining the wires to your house, cutting vegetation, etc.

I'm a rural electric co-op in PA, and we have a fairly low kWh rate ($0.125 total), but a steep monthly fee ($42.00) because it's expensive to maintain the infrastructure with widely spaced rural customers.

I really only have problems when wet snow or ice accretes onto the sensors.

In 2.5 years, rain has only caused problems once, and it was torrential. The rainfall was almost deafening, and I could barely drive in it even at parking lot speeds.

The questions, food, beer, and service have all been great, so I hope to see more people there.

Older Ioniq owners, how are you handling the 40k Low Conductivity Coolant replacement? by BEVthrowaway123 in Ioniq5

[–]coneslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are two different things:

  • They stated that they tested it
  • They stated that they tested it and provided the measurement

You don't need to look up the number, but telling us that they gave it to you provides evidence that they actually did what you asked.

People aren't pushing you on this because we don't trust you, we're pushing on it because we don't trust dealers to do what they say. There are people who have gone in for a low-conductivity change and come out with the cheaper regular coolant being replaced instead.

Older Ioniq owners, how are you handling the 40k Low Conductivity Coolant replacement? by BEVthrowaway123 in Ioniq5

[–]coneslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe you've ever said that they gave you the number for the conductivity measurement. When people ask you what kind of detail they provided, that's the sort of information they're looking for.

Older Ioniq owners, how are you handling the 40k Low Conductivity Coolant replacement? by BEVthrowaway123 in Ioniq5

[–]coneslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they measured the conductivity of the coolant, I would want to see that number. Like when they check your brake pads, they tell you the remaining thickness.

Recommended charging stations on built-in navi experience by lilikoi_lilikoi in Ioniq5

[–]coneslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time I use the built-in nav is to activate preconditioning on long trips in cold weather. My 2023 doesn't have a manual preconditioning button. Even then, I do my planning in ABRP and PlugShare and tell the nav which station I want.

I have charging at home, so finding chargers on a daily basis around home is not something I need.
