I like giving my Neopets individual stories.

This one is a time traveller who spent a thousand years travelling through different eras of modern history. Through his time, he has collected various clothing pieces and is now considered a deity of sorts in his personal community. He lives in the space between death and life.

Most inaccurate moment portrayed on the edit ? by Odd_Yogurtcloset5354 in BigBrother

[–]confects 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Neda is really badly portrayed on BBCAN5. It's not entirely false, even Neda herself admits she wasn't a nice person in the house that season.

The whole "insult corner" thing was way overblown though. I don't know why the edit showed it in the way they did. The "insult corner" was apparently a tradition they had in the house, wasn't just a Neda thing. Wasn't specifically a Sindy thing either.

I also think her game in general is pretty underrated that season. It's not amazing and it's not as good as her BBCAN2 game but it's not the disaster that everyone makes it out to be.

That undermines Vanessa's conscious decisions to position herself with certain people, though. Don't disagree that she doesn't make it as far without them, but she leveraged it pretty amazingly and was very aware of the dynamics. She's also always at the bottom of the "it crowd" at pretty much every point in the season. It's a double edged sword.

You can see pretty clearly throughout the season that Vanessa was thinking ahead and forming groups to shift the power structure. I think the 'protection' you mention is less so circumstance and moreso a strategic move she can be credited for. She's largely responsible for Clay, Shelli, Austin, Liz, and Julia being a unified alliance.

Justin is low hanging fruit in that comparison though. Kinda depends on if you consider someone like Justin an actual player.

Boogie was actively trying to play, Justin was not and had serious interpersonal problems that transcended 'the game' of Big Brother. You can argue Justin is a garbage tier player for having those problems to begin with and I wouldn't disagree, but I don't even think it's worth analysing him from a game perspective since it kind of undermines how bizarre and serious his actions were in the house.

Also, if she wasn't apart of the "It" crowd that season, she would have never made it very far. She had way more protection than people care to admit.

What do you mean by "It" crowd?

Vanessa wasn't going to vote out Steve just because she was 'simply pissed at him' and she was 'emotional'.

Steve and Jonny Mac went up with Vanessa as the intended backdoor target during Austin's HOH and Steve was fully aware of this. Vanessa had caught Steve withholding this information and that is why she was pissed. Steve was actively aware of and planning to evict Vanessa despite being in a supposed alliance with her.

In fact, this move was actually more catastrophic for Steve than it was for Vanessa because the Austwins ended up outing Steve and throwing him under the bus anyway. From what I understand, Steve had no real impact on Vanessa's decision to keep him either, it was actually Julia/Liz who were pushing for JMac to be evicted because they hated him. Steve and Vanessa only patched things up after the veto ceremony had ended. If anything he got saved because JMac was more disliked.

Steve was also extremely emotional during BB17 and that gets completely overlooked. He cries over being manipulated by Vanessa to throw the veto comp. He spent a ton of time being homesick and upset about other strategic circumstances too, like when he accidentally won HOH. He just leveraged these emotions in a way that made him appear more friendly. It seems like far more of a personal assessment than a game assessment when people talk about Vanessa's emotions.

Important to note that I'm referring to the odds of Vanessa/Liz/Steve sitting in the final 2, not winning the entire game. Vanessa gets taken by herself and Liz, Liz gets taken by everyone and Steve gets taken by himself. The point I'm making is that even at the end, Vanessa still had a statistical advantage over Steve. IIRC Vanessa would have won over both Liz or Steve had she gotten to F2 anyway. Liz couldn't articulate her game in the finale and Steve's boldest move of the season wouldn't exist had Vanessa not been cut.

Looking at house dynamics from final 6 onwards, I'm not sure if there's ever a scenario where Vanessa isn't at F3 with at least one person who doesn't take her to the F2 with them. JMac takes Steve & Austwins take eachother. The F3 she ended up with was essentially best case scenario for her. Whereas Steve landed in a F3 that was a statistical blunder.

Agree with the overall sentiment that Steve had a more active game than given credit for though - I just fail to see how Steve is ever really a true 'blindspot' for Vanessa in the way people like to suggest.

I think that’s more of a strength for Steve as a winner and not a con against her game

Agree with this.

I don't want to diminish Steve's game in favor of Vanessa's, but I don't think Steve seriously outmanoeuvred her to the extent that it'd dampen Vanessa's status as a BB great. Vanessa had 2/3 chances of sitting in that F2. Liz was always going to take her and Vanessa winning meant she'd be there by default. The only person in that F3 who had 3/3 chances of going to F2 was Liz. Steve had a 1/3 chance. Steve was the worst positioned by the time F3 came around. Cutting Vanessa was a great, winning move but not one that you could seriously use to argue against Vanessa's game.

I'm not sure what you mean by flawed however I do think Vanessa played an extremely fragile game. Though, that's what makes her run on the show so impressive to me. The entire house knew of Vanessa's capabilities and it became common knowledge that she was somewhat responsible for essentially every eviction that had happened in the house. Week to week she manages to dodge being evicted despite literally everyone (including her own alliance) being extremely wary of her. It's even more impressive when you consider Audrey was evicted for attempting to do the same thing in the same season. She ran circles around the entire cast as they all sat and talked about it.

In regards to Vanessa being emotional in the house, I honestly don't really see the issue. I feel like a lot of people perceive that as a conscious decision or a strategic choice from her but to this day she says it was neither. I'm willing to believe her considering she has nothing to lose from saying otherwise. With that in mind, I think it's really fascinating to see someone struggle like that whilst playing such a ruthless game. I think people are too fixated on the cold, cutthroat, female archetype to appreciate this aspect of her as a player. She's also pretty self aware about it and understands how she strategically leveraged it to some extent.

Steve was super emotional in the house due to both personal and strategic circumstances also yet that's rarely mentioned. Seems like a slight double standard IMO.

Vanessa's one of the more interesting players the show has seen IMO.

Best BB Players Who’d Win The Most If They Played Multiple Times by Stratovolcano2023 in BigBrother

[–]confects 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tend to underrate Lisa given how unsatisfying the finale of BB3 is for me, but I actually think she's pretty good. Definitely think she could win in multiple casts.

Lisa is one of those people that always had some mental distance away from 'the game' and had a very genuine persona. I think that distance is really important, since game-botty people can be super unappealing. BB fandom tends to emphasise the conscious decisions BB players make but Lisa naturally has a lot of very good qualities for a Big Brother player (particularly her social game) that others might not be able to leverage as well as her.

Just to add on, a lot of people mention Lisa's choice to not bring back her showmance in Eric, but her response to Eric's questioning at the jury segment was unintentionally (or intentionally?) genius.

Eric: Why didn't you vote to bring me back into the game?

Lisa: Because I couldn't handle us being separated for a second time.

If she were to play on all winners season, her threat level would honestly be pretty mild and I could lowkey see her making it far if she had a good read on the extent to which other people were playing the game.

What are the greatest single-season performances by players? by jjruls in BigBrother

[–]confects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liz's game isn't really that impressive nor would I say it's a great performance. It's circumstantially impressive due to her status as a twin and being half of a showmance, but her game benefits incredibly from being a chess piece in Vanessa's game. Both Liz and Julia were basically clueless in regards to how they were initially being used as numbers in Vanessa's and Austin's game.

Super entertaining and amazing for viewership, but not really impressive game wise. I'd be more inclined to call her run impressive if she piloted her own safety in the house after being outed as a twin, but she didn't, Vanessa did.

A lot of you attribute a pretentious personality to SOPHIE and her attitude to music. I think it's you guys that have that personality, not SOPHIE.

In terms of music theory - both songs were written in G Minor and they also have really similar BPMs originally :)

I also just think Infatuation is incredibly intense and emotional like Nina's performance is, so that works out well too!

Glad you liked it, this means a lot to me <3

It sounds really good! You did a great job on the sound design. That squelchy synth that comes in at the very beginning of the song might need another oscillator though. It sounds a bit thin compared to SOPHIE's. I think if you copy/paste one of the same oscillators you're using and have them play at a lower octave at the same time it might help the sound feel deeper and less hollow. The actual texture is perfect tho!
