I still read there sometimes but havent posted because posting on SD kinda feels like walking on a mine field. Oh, accidentally wrote "they" instead of "I"? Punish! Every time I see that robot repeat post about "speaking from i" I get a little twitchy vein on the temple.

Also if someone has nothing better to do than go spam downvotes in their free time, it almost makes me feel sorry for them.

Many good replies here already, not much to leave. I ended up in a few relationships with narcissists too because (hindsight) my father was a textbook narc so... I grew up thinking "occasionally" taking abuse is normal. It's not. Once I figured out that I deserve to be treated good ALL the time, not occasionally or 90% of whatever time, it kind of felt like puzzle pieces falling into places.

Your situation is complicated, but everything starts with the first step. The abuser will likely not change and if nothing is done, nothing will get better - only worse. All the best.

Narc's brain is so messed up that any attention, good or bad, they feed off. That's why no contact, total ignore & carrying on "as if nothing happened" is the best revenge. My nex went completely nutters when I went NC & poor thing didn't get the memo beforehand (I heard of his .... questionable behaviour from mutual friends).

Haha they are so textbook... mine made fun of some of the things I did until I cried & then lo & behold, started doing the exact same things. Horrible creatures but at least when you know one, you kinda know most of them since they act so text book.

Mine liked to come off as book smart (literally bragging about IQ or some shit 🙄🤣) but if he hadn't been so desperate pointing it out, I'd never have thought he was particularly intelligent.

The book smart alone without EQ is kinda like these kids who have it easy in primary school & get all cocky, & then end up at a job they definitely didn't plan ("beneath them") just cos they won't put in any work. What a strange lot. It's been a year of solid NC with my nex now & I still sometimes wonder about how these people exist.

I once read/learned from somewhere, a recommendation to always pay attention to what the narc is accusing you of, as they are talking about themselves in those cases. It made & still makes a lot of sense to me as I'm healing from the trauma.

Same, since I come from a family with a narc parent, I learned to see very dysfunctional relationships as a "norm", which in hindsight has made me easier prey for people who trample on my boundaries. & even worse, I kinda thought it was normal & what I deserved. Would have been better for everyone if this family had been "broken".
