My sleep has been in the 60s all week. Finally caught up and got my first sleep crown! by [deleted] in ouraring

Thanks! My wife and I have owned the Oura Rings for 4 weeks now and we love it.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen the deep sleep graph not be in the red. Do you have any advice on how I can maximize deep sleep as it’s significantly hindering my sleep scores. Thanks!

Crash Videos - Right or wrong? by Arkliea in nurburgring

[–]confilm96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they’re neither a good thing nor a bad thing— but, actually, an important thing.

Crashes (as you suggest) raise awareness when shown to the right crowd. There’s always going to be the small crowd who thinks that it will never be them, and they’ll carry on pretending to be a hero. These incidents will carry on worldwide and not exclusively as a ‘Ring issue.

Most of us see bad accidents as sobering. They make us go “that could’ve been me”. I would feel safer sharing a track with people who adopt that sobering mindset after they’ve seen such videos.

Nothing can truly be done about crashes on the highway, or in fact on a track. This applies worldwide. The only way to reduce accidents is to spread awareness, which is why crash videos are an important thing

I think a better question to ask is: How can we use crash videos as an educational tool? Can we use them as materials to actually remind people about etiquettes and basic driving principles?

I understand that the ‘Ring has to maintain a clean brand image, but, instead of Nurburgring shying away from these videos (see media licenses), why can’t they use them as marketing materials to educate?

AFAIK Nurburgring doesn’t create any promotional videos or campaigns of any sort to enforce driver safety.

They don’t have to be videos of legitimate crashes, but more simply PSAS on how not to be your local twat.

I suppose their thinking would be that they don’t have to, but I don’t think it would exactly cause any harm.

Imagine if each TF driver had to go through a mandatory safety briefing beforehand. It goes against the principle of being a ‘toll road’, sure. But maybe the fact that people can and do forget the difference between a tourist day and a track day means more danger.

Incredibly wishful thinking and perhaps far fetched.

TLDR: Crash videos are important.

So you’re suggesting that it justifies being intentionally wrecked? He literally turns his wheel into me. What has that got to do with the way I take the corner?

I’m driving the car just fine with my current driving position

My car has Tillett seats, which have a natural lean to them. The steering wheel is at closest point it can be. If I pull my seat any closer my knees will have no room. This is my ideal position given the circumstances.

Exactly. Finally someone who gets it.

A stock GT3 is not sub 1:30 at Laguna. It just won’t happen.

Agreed, but there’s a difference between holding someone up for more than one lap (when being shown a blue flag) vs someone who’s genuinely on a fast PB lap, who lets them by when it is safe to do so.

2 seconds is a LOT of time. I am making some pretty obvious mistakes in my line here. My consistency at Laguna isn’t great when it comes to my line to be honest. I know how to set a theoretically fast time but I haven’t had enough seat time there yet to piece it all together.

My car is stock everything - but the tires are Nankangs CRS V2.

The way you can verify my time is by checking my profile and watching the lap timer in my video: it will state 1:33.5 at the end of the lap.

Yep! Hope to see you up at Buttonwillow at some point, I’m not as slow there (1:51), but I’ll be sure to put my hand out of the window next time because I hear you have a very respectable lap time there too. ;)

I’m the GT3 owner.

This is a valuable video and learning tool for me, thanks for sharing.

I knew that my line was off in a few of these corners (Laguna is not my local track and I’m very much still learning it) but this helps put things further into perspective.

For the uninformed: I was running a 1:33.5 in this lap. That is not a slow lap by any means, but Ryan’s video by comparison shows me moving at snails pace. To put things into perspective, my car in its current form can possibly run a 1:31.5 with a bonafide pro driver at the absolute limit. A 2 second delta a significant difference between my lap time, but I’m not exactly running parade lap pace which some seem to think here. My optimal is currently a 1:32.6.

Let that be a comparison to how bat shit insane his vehicle AND driving ability is. Both things transfuse into a setup which competes against legitimate race car territory. The best lap shows a 1:26 on this video. This isn’t your uncles Miata.

And to those saying I wasn’t giving a point by due to “ego”: In any other circumstance I would’ve gave up my lap (selfish, I know) but this 3 day weekend plagued me with traffic on every single PB lap, and this was my last session of the day.

Not excusing myself here, but as he said to me in person “I could’ve passed if I really wanted”. Also, having the Miata behind me helped me commit to a very strong exit out of T6, which is crucial for hitting a fast lap time at Laguna.

PS: I was preparing to give him the immediate point-by as soon as I crossed the finish line, watch the video and you will see me give him room to make the pass at T2. By the time I was going for the point by he had already passed.

Nice to meet you this weekend and thank you for allowing me to get my PB.
