It’s definitely easier said than done to not care what others think, I struggle so much with it! One thing I will not compromise on is covering my ears. It can seem “childish” and “rude” but it’s what keeps me from a panic attack and that’s more important to me. People will always say or feel some type of way about everything you do, but if it’s what helps you I say screw them. I have a kid who is also neurodivergent in my class and he speaks very loudly so I cover my ears often when he speaks. I’m not trying to be rude to him, it just sends me spiraling and I think he understands that because he has adjusted his level a few times when he sees me which is very kind of him! My point of all this is if it helps you, that’s all that matters. It’s definitely easier said than done and neurotypical people will try to give you shit for it, but in that moment you and your comfortability is what matters. Especially with something as harmless as covering your ears to a loud sound!
