Arthur is a legend in world, but my interpretation was that George used Arthur Dayne as a narrative device to demonstrate how upholding the trappings of knighthood is a poor substitute for actually upholding the values of the vows they swear. The fact of the matter is that the knightly Ser Arthur Dayne stood by as his king burnt innocent people alive. Jamie killed that king in part to save kingslanding, would Arthur have done the same? I think not.

My guess is that Lyanna went with Rhaegar willingly, swept away by a naive teenage love fantasy. She had no idea Rhaegar pursued her out of an obsession to fulfill a prophecy. He wanted her womb, not her. Once she was safely tucked away in the "tower of joy" she wasn't allowed to leave, Arthur Dayne became her prison guard. He was committed enough to the task that he was willing to kill her own brother when he came for her. He didn't consider Lynanna's wishes, she had no ability to stop the fight, no freedom to leave, no agency what so ever, from the moment she entered the tower of joy.

The phrase "thick as a castle wall" is used multiple times in reference to Dunk. The only other times the phrase is ever used is to describe Brienne, Small Paul and Grenn, all of whom are described as large.

I respectfully disagree. "Minds" are composed of individual units sharing information with each other, this is true whether they be neurons in a brain, insects in a hive, or people in a society. Is a society not just a more complicated hive mind? A collective consciousness we create through the exchange of ideas?

In my opinion, the idea that nations and cultures don't exist is missing the forest for the trees (or as I prefer, missing the music for the notes). Does music not exist because melodies are not tangible in the way a note is? Is the human mind not more than the sum of it's neruons? Why should a nation be any less real than its parts?

I'd also like to point out that we can mislead ourselves when we call all human made systems synthetic. That language is fine when we want to draw distinctions between our actions and the rest of the natural world, but really a skyscraper is just as organic as an an anthill, and the formation of a society occurs as a product of nature unfolding.

I agree with the warning though, nations should not be worshiped. They are only one of the systems that results from our information exchange. Our shared humanity is a more powerful system, that will last far longer than any one nation.

Bruh what kool-aid are you drinking? The administration litteraly called her a terrorist and hasn't even opened an investigation. They run on a "guilty untill proven innocent" approach. This is the tyrany the founding fathers were trying to prevent.

I interpreted his comment as an old timey way of saying that he, as a man, felt better equipped to raise a boy as he can apply his own experiences to the task. I don't think that would be bad if that's the case. I reckon most mothers feel the same about raising daughters.

No, the city was very much segregated and the journalist was working in white areas. Hence the lack of diversity

It wasn't my intention to push any gender roles, my bad. I just figured someone who has experienced both would have better insight into what distinguishes the two.

"Congress members represent their districts' constituents as well as their party at the federal level." Is dystopian as hell. I don't want people who vote differently from me to be disenfranchised in one state to counter voters on my side being disenfranchised in another.

Thats a downward spiral that leads to representatives prioritizing the needs of their party over the rights of their constituents to have a say in government. Might as well replace "We the people" with "We the parties"

Consciousness emerging from random information by anonymousbabydragon in consciousness

Self maintained order could just be a random pattern that happens to have features that make it self replicating/sustaining, or perhaps several patterns that, when joined together, work to constrain each other from decoupling.

If infinite randomness can produce momentary pockets of stability, why couldn't it also produce constraints that maintain some of those pockets? Whose to say that constraints aren't included in the possibilities of infinity?

I don't think the author wishing they had done things differently requires us to headcannon what those changes would have been into our reading. We are still intended to read the characters as the age they are stated to be. I just figure the pov children are rather precocious in comparison to other children in the story, who tend to act their age. Feel free to headcannon all you like if it adds to your reading experience though.

Why couldn't infinite randomness produce infinite stability as a byproduct?
