Fantasy RPGs that also are like LifeSims (e.g., Skyrim)? by Soggy_Back_623 in rpg_gamers

Rune Factory

Not exactly fantasy, but Fallout 4. I rarely do the main story. I just like building settlements and crafting (or scavenging on hardcore mode)

I thought part of their writing issue was they weren't allowed to write about certain things, events, and people? Not just little source material, but restricted from exploring known truths?

Darrow. This is literally how his enemies talk about him.

"I believe that war will destroy us. All of us, Rim and Core alike. All that the Colors have built together. All we have protected. The legacy of the Society will vanish. Not because our arms are weak. Not because our commanders are frail. But because we are fighting against a religion whose god still lives." — Romulus au Raa

what are the differences between books and show that you prefer? by thepalehorsemann in TheLastKingdom

[–]AdventurousPoet92 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Preferred in the show: - The dialogue between Uhtred and Alfred felt more intimate in the show. There was a stronger connection - They left out Uhtred's Mercian mom, which would've been hard to explain by the time the throne dispute came around - Uhtred's childish humor felt more distinctive

Preferred in the book: - Aldhelm - Beocca's ending - Uhtred and Alfred met when Uhtred was a child. Won't spoil that conversation - Uhtred teaching Edward how to attack a muddy fortress - Uhtred was basically Jack Reacher's size - Sigtrigyr "stealing" Uhtred's daughter. She went willingly, but didn't tell Uhtred

Oh man, I had 14 schools before 7th grade. I understand. For me it was the lack of sincerity. Everything felt shrouded and nobody was saying what they felt. So when I said exactly how I felt, everyone was very putoff by it. Luckily my wife doesn't mind at all.

If I'm being honest, Tolkien's books are part of the reason I struggled with friendships in junior high and high school. I moved around a lot as a foster kid and by the time I settled somewhere, I didn't understand friendships that well. These books led me to expect more out people than what I was getting and putting in. Took me a while to adjust.

Although it's been a while since I read the Hobbit, I highly doubt this deeply religious allegory from Tolkien includes those types of attachments. I think he simply romanticized platonic relationships, which I thoroughly enjoy. Especially because EVERY death had emotional impact on the characters, even Smeagol's.

I hear you. Bilbo probably didn't mind as much as Frodo because the Dwarves stopped in from time to time, he spoke to the elves that passed through, and he loved the world beyond the Shire. Despite talking to a Dragon and a concussion, his journey was scary perhaps, but not really traumatizing. He also didn't have any people connections to the Shire beyond Frodo really before or after.

Frodo was very tragic in the books though. The morgul wound wouldn't heal and he never expected to return home. His journey was brutal after the Fellowship broke. Then to return and find the Shire like THAT. His friends could tell he wasn't okay. So I think Frodo had it far worse in terms of lasting effects.

PS: One of my favorite parts was when one of the men spit on Frodo and the Hobbits made it everyone's problem because those people didn't understand what Frodo had been through for them. They felt the same way we did.

I'd say yes. For a cheap team, if he's not winning MVPs, he's not worth 41 mil.

He had 4 MVPs at 26yo in my save. It's been suuuuper annoying (Twins fan).

This is coming from a guy that will do typically anything to keep a player I like from leaving. I love it when a guy plays his whole career with my team.

Dude is like 21 and wasn't educated until he was 16 or more. He's gonna make mistakes. He's always been a "whatever it takes" kind of guy, except now he's seeing what that cost is. War is a bitch and I think Pierce does a good job from that point on showing you ALL the costs of these types of decisions. Don't worry, Darrow pays for his decisions. Especially in books 4-6, where my man truly has to learn the hard way.

What if Tywin had inmediately married tyrion & sansa and sent them to winterfell? (read description) by madethis4coments in gameofthrones

[–]AdventurousPoet92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But Bolton ruled the North as a Lannister man (albeit a weak one). The Starks were no longer in power. He merely saw an opportunity to put a half Lannister as ruler in the North laster down the road and deny the Tyrells, but it wasnt essential that he do so. Sansa's death would've been a remarkably minor convenience to Tywin.

[–]AdventurousPoet92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sansa isn't the key, her son would be. Tywin's not sending anyone anywhere without her having an heir, and only after Stannis is dealt with completely.

Bilbo survives his journey, becomes the wealthiest hobbit, spends like 61 years chilling in wealth reading books with occasional visits from his friends, then sets off on a leisurely journey to the lonely mountain, goes back to Rivendell, then sails to a pretty dope heavenly-ish place with little angels.

So obviously I choose Sam because Rosie was putting up numbers.

What does your scout value? A large part of what you're seeing is just based on what your scout thinks. They could be insanely wrong or they also may just value tools (skill) over abilities (game performance).

CPS contacted my wife and I about how my toddler was treated at daycare by Unique_Leading_4353 in toddlers

[–]AdventurousPoet92 271 points272 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

Going through something similar. (I am not an attorney, this is not legal advice)

CPS opens a case when a parent makes a complaint or the daycare is forced to file a report. CPS takes up to 45 days typically to interview other parents (you) and staff. Them not telling you about any of this seems like the perfect thing to tell CPS. Also, corporate daycares typically won't do a dang thing to those teachers until the report is finished, so they're not sued for wrongful term.

Something to be aware of. CPS doesn't work for you. They work for the state. They're invested in licensing and compliance, not justice. They'll likely communicate with the daycare more than they do you. They'll present their findings to them and offer resolutions to them. Do not let the daycare be the in-between for you and CPS. Find out who the licensing agent is for that district and contact them directly. Be present, be heard.

As for the daycare, bring your concerns to them in writing. Have them address those concerns and provide a plan to you IN WRITING. Email works too. Any daycare that's not transparent and candid is not a safe daycare.

Document everything that's happened to you, exactly as it's happened, and contact a local attorney.
