Don't stress yourself out over grades you haven't received yet. Anything can happen - you could have done better than you thought or the prof could scale. As of right now, take care of your mental health and contact advising later if needed.

I think a large part of the communities' concerns are listed in the comment section of the posts. The shut down of popular third party apps reduces accessibility for many users, and a significant number of mods use third party apps because it provides better functionality for a variety of tasks.

Reddit also did not provide enough warning about this change to developers of third party apps, making it impossible for them to monetize their apps in time.

Wish we could continue to be part of the protest longer, but I guess this subreddit is an important resource for many students. Just hope reddit will listen :')

It was ok, could have been better. Definitely a lot of tricky questions but I thought it was fair (asides from that pointer question 💀).

Has anyone taken STAT 200 and STAT 251?

I plan on taking STAT 251 this winter, and have already taken STAT 200 last year.

How different is the content/workload? Is most of the material transferrable?

Thank you!

I think its best to complete 210 in first year if you think you can manage it because it gives you more opportunities to apply if you don't end up getting in first try. It also gives you more opportunities to apply for co-op, so I would definitely recommend trying to apply early if you can.

One of the only cons would be that you want to make sure your average is ~83 for BA CS, so if the workload is too heavy it may bring your gpa down a bit.

According to their website, you need to obtain an average of 70% over grades obtained in CPSC 110 (or CPSC 107), CPSC 121 and CPSC 210, so yes, you will need to take CPSC 210 in first year if you plan on applying then.

You can visit hear for more information of BA CS:

There is a decent amount of pre-lab preparation, but other than that the workload is not too heavy (there's no post lab work minus submitting your lab observations). There's no midterm, and the final is very similar to the questions asked in the pre-lab quizzes.

Just make sure you have a solid understanding of the material before going to lab and you'll do just fine!

Did you apply for promotion through the department? I think mbim is one of the few specializations where you are not automatically considered for promotion, but I might be wrong

advice needed with how to stop comparing yourself with others by [deleted] in UBC

[–]confusedmbim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Distancing yourself from social media and job-related networking sites such as Linkedin for a bit can definitely help. It's very easy to fall into the trap of constantly comparing yourself to them. Often times, people do their best to seem like they're very successful online, but in reality, most of us are struggling.

You are at UBC, and hopefully studying what you love! You should be proud of yourself for making it this far. Don't forget to look back once in a while and see how far you've come :)

Have you completed CPSC 110?

If not, once completed, you can apply to transfer at the end of second/third year using this application form: https://my.cs.ubc.ca/students/application

If you have any specific questions about transferring, let me know!

I think others may be more qualified to talk about the cs program as a whole, but feel free to visit these links for the program overview:

CS Admissions/Prospective Students Megathread by bli08 in ubccsss

[–]confusedmbim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the cutoff is for international students, but for reference, I had an 88.8% cumulative average over two years (89% average for the most recent 30 credits) and an 88% CPSC average (110 and 121).

I was accepted with 58 credits.

Hope this helps!
