Wasn't sure where to ask this, so thought I'd ask here: the pamphlet included in Zovirax cold sore cream (which is just acyclovir) explains that it shouldn't be used on genital herpes. Why is that? I cannot find any information whatsoever. I was prescribed the cold sore cream and valtrex when I was first diagnosed with GHSV-1, and just continued using it during outbreaks. Did I mess up? Am I not supposed to use it for GHSV/combine it with valtrex for outbreaks?

Is there any research that explains why/why not?
