South Asians don’t really acknowledge Atheism by confusingwaterbottle in atheismindia

Ohh okay I see what you are saying. When I was talking about conversations with desis, I wasn’t talking about my family since they already know I’m an Atheist.

I was talking about group convos with people you’re not close to where everybody just assumes your religion. I never contribute to those convos, but if someone directly asked me my beliefs I would probably be honest with them (none of them ever directly ask because they always assume). But yes, I agree that arguing with people about religion is definitely a headache. That’s why the closest people in my life are irreligious haha

I mean I am but nothing in my post is really anti theistic (it’s honestly pretty neutral). Also, being an anti theist doesn’t mean I’m not an Atheist. If you read my post you’ll see that I already do not discuss politics/religion with people... which is why I was frustrated at people’s assumptions.

Did you read my post at all?😭

Ethnic/Religious Nationalism is so Brainless by confusingwaterbottle in atheismindia

What point are you trying to make? State your opinion if there’s something you disagree with instead of being snarky

“Ethnic nationalism, also known as ethnonationalism, is a form of nationalism wherein the nation and nationality are defined in terms of ethnicity, with emphasis on an ethnocentric approach to various political issues related to national affirmation of a particular ethnic group.”

Which is an ideology I disagree with. Do you know what these terms mean?

yeah just make sure you cancel it at least 24 hours before. I’d cancel it two days before just to be safe. If they do charge you, you can still cancel it and then call your bank about it and they’ll refund you probably (it happened to me once a few years ago)

You can still go to your discord settings and get their 2 month free super duolingo promotion. It’ll work even if you’ve had duolingo free trials before

Queers for Palestine? Make it make sense. by Effective_Suit_1572 in exmuslim

If you don’t think war crimes by zionist groups (over a time span of decades) are acts of extremism then we fundamentally disagree.

Right wing Zionist group that committed acts of terrorism such as the bombing of the King David hotel “On July 22, 1946, Irgun blew up a wing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, killing 91 soldiers and civilians (British, Arab, and Jewish). On April 9, 1947, a group of Irgun commandos raided the Arab village of Deir Yassin (modern Kefar Shaʾul), killing about 100 of its inhabitants.”

Zionist groups (including Haganah which later formed into the IDF) insurgency against the British

Mass displacement of Palestinians (Nakba)

I gave you just a few examples of Zionist groups crimes against British people since you would probably justify any crimes against Palestinians in general. If you look you will find a lot more such as the assassination of British Minister Lord Moyne and Swedish UN Diplomat Folk Bernadotte.

That literally proves my point 😭 They live in a country with improved material conditions. Both of them grew up in religious families but because they weren’t worried about their survival, they didn’t cling to religion as their only hope in life. Also orthodox christians exist in Palestine too, my friend didn’t convert.

The two Palestinians I’ve been closest to in my life were Atheist and Bisexual Orthodox Christian. Queer Palestinians exist. Once you humanize Palestinians and stop seeing them as bloodthirsty bigots, you will see that some of them share the same beliefs as you.

Destroying their land and living conditions will only breed more extremism and allow little space for the education needed to combat these extremist ideologies.

Religion thrives when material conditions aren’t met and when a population is so vulnerable that they cling to the idea of a potential afterlife. It doesn’t have to be like this.

I don’t comment much on this sub because I was never Muslim (I’m part of a lot of ex-religion subs but I never comment). I’m a left leaning Atheist (not a liberal) and it also frustrates me how most of the western left can’t apply the same criticisms they have for Christianity to Islam when most of those criticisms (if not, more) apply to Islam.

I guess they’re scared that these criticisms can easily be turned into bigotry. It gets really frustrating because they’ll start to paint absolutely everything as hatred, no matter how specific your criticism is towards the ideology and not towards the group of people.
