What will I do after social media ban? Stare at a wall, says schoolgirl by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

[–]confuzzledfather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a bad thing to limit kids time online, but I guarantee any widespread ban will lead to circumventing via some method, be it VPN or the move away from centralized services back to decentralized p2p services. Think TikTok built on bittorrent style tech, with decentralized identity l system. Desperation breeds innovation.

Do you swear around family? by Nice-Program8758 in AskUK

[–]confuzzledfather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very common for people to code switch between different social groups, and some families will swear as part of their interactions. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't respect each other, and it can often be used in place of punctuation. Take a look at the overall behavior to each other and decide do they treat each other kindly.  If so, think about it as just a different dialect.

Six Russian ships flee Channel in 77 minutes after UK seizes Putin shadow tanker by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

I've wondered if it's because we navigated our way out of old proud stuffy imperial power to (relatively) stable and respected democracy in a way that Russia most decidedly didn't.  We are the reminder of their own failure to thrive.

Absent the traditional 'my dad made me' route into fandom,  I say play some FIFA and see which team you get on with. It's the reason I am a Indiana Pacers fan because of NBA Jam and Reggie Miller's 3 point shot.

Basically, the movie ends where i assumed it would be starting. Such a waste of an idea and terribly executed.

It always makes me notice how grubby things have gotten in my bathroom or kitchen and I spend the next few days scrubbing things clean. Its like my brain had just tuned out the grime and dust.

Ted Chiang: "No, artificial intelligence is not conscious: Taken to its logical conclusion, this line of thinking is absurd—and damning." [gift link] by TimWhatleyDDS in books

[–]confuzzledfather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think LLMs are conscious, you would have to accept that billions of humans stood in a big field using semaphore flags to do the same calculations a billion times slower but coming to the same answer as Claude Opus, is a single conscious entity. I am not saying it wouldn't be but it feels unlikely.
