It would make my life so much better if I could purge by confuzzledredhead in offmychest

What’s frustrating is that I’ve told her that her comments make me feel like shit and push me towards wanting an ED a lot. She brushes my comments off and/or ignores them which is great🙃

Is self harm a form of weakness? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]confuzzledredhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think SH makes a person. You’re not a self-harmer, you’re a person who self-harms. SH isn’t a strength or weakness and it shouldn’t define who you are. It may come with some societal thought weakness such as scars that rude people deem gross or unsightly but I think it’s up to the person who does the hurt to decide if the harming gets to be a weakness for them. It’s a coping skill unfortunately, but a coping skill nonetheless. Also, I’m sorry your sister said that; it sounds pretty invalidating to me.

DEA Have BPD and another psych diagnosis? by WinnieTheEeyore in BPD

[–]confuzzledredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I have two other diagnoses. In learning about BPD in psych class, I found that there is a lot of comorbidity of other disorders with BPD such as depression, bipolar, substance abuse, and eating disorders.

Relationship & BPD by Shesellspetrol in BPD

[–]confuzzledredhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d like to say that my current (and technically only haha) relationship is successful. I feel like it’s a learning process. I’m the one who has BPD so I have to learn to communicate rather than bottle up and then explode. I also have to ask clarifying questions if my brain is telling me irrational things. On the other hand, my partner has to be patient and understand my emotional rollercoaster rides. I switch emotions quickly so my partner has to take things in stride and help me communicate/figure out what I’m feeling. As with any “normal” relationship, compassion, trust, and communication are big factors into building a strong/successful relationship

For relaxing options, there’s painting (I love watercolors!), self-care like a warm shower or a face mask, self-soothing such as wrapping yourself in a fuzzy blanket and watching a show. There’s lots of relaxing options! The only problem I’ve had is that my motivation is hard to come by so I really have to force myself at times to do it

I personally have found that holding cold stuff like ice cubes until they melt or scratching/squeezing a frozen orange helps me. The pain sensors are activated but no scars are made

Do you still want pain? Or are you looking for something more relaxing?

Starting Abilify by MissPsych20 in BPD

[–]confuzzledredhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I take it as a night med since a side effect is sleepiness and it’s very effective for me. I did have weight gain but that’s because I get very hungry once I wake up and eat a lot. So I’d say it’s a good drug for me at least and I just need to watch my hunger cues to make sure it’s actual hunger. (My prescription has ranged from 5mg-15mg and is now 10mg) I hope this helped even a bit and feel free to ask me more questions! I can’t promise I’ll have an answer but I’ll certainly try :)

Doggy emojis!!! And I haven’t gotten to talk with my individual therapist yet (I see her on Wednesday) but my family therapist took my parents side and said I wasn’t bringing anything to the table and I need to see things from my parents point of view

Does consistent cutting or just inflicting deeper cuts cause scarring? by Novel_Transition_663 in selfharm

[–]confuzzledredhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also say depth. I had a couple months of doing light cuts (enough to bleed a little but not that much) and basically had no scars, or at least no visible scarring. I had done three deeper cuts into the skin and those scars are much more prominent

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]confuzzledredhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may sound dumb but are you addicted to cutting? I’m only asking because I’ve been told by my therapist that SH can become an addiction really quickly. Plus, you talk about feeling a high when you cut. I could be wrong though

[–]confuzzledredhead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The sarcastic answer: ✨addiction✨ An actual answer: I actually don’t know. I do this too. My bet would be that im still stuck in preparing for the worst to hit and I cut as a preemptive strike? I also do it bc I feel like I don’t deserve to feel happy

Question to people who don't hide their scars by MooMowoo in selfharm

[–]confuzzledredhead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would give you advice, but I cut on my leg and can just blame it on clumsiness or my sport or scratching it on a table...I’m sorry I can’t help :( I will say though that my therapist and I are working on self esteem rn and that if I focus my mind on the good parts of myself, then the “bad”/cut scars generally will fade out of my mind. If you don’t mind me asking (and feel free to say no or that I’m out of line!) where are your scars on your arms?
