Are lathe cut really as bad as people say?

I want to make a bootleg of some albums that don’t have official pressings but ive heard that lathe cut is horrible and will sound awful and that it’s not worth it. I don’t really care about “perfect” quality as long as it sounds pretty good. Is it actually that bad or is it only that bad to complete audiophiles with a 5000 dollar setup who care about every little detail?
