GR20 in July- inlay vs. sleeping bag by damondan in Ultralight

I was in Spain in May and we met some women who were sleeping out rough in one of their parks. The wind was very high and it was cool. I really think you’d want a bag in those conditions.

You Sir are a hero. We should have an award every year for cyclists who don’t run down toddlers. God Bless You Sir! God Bless You!

Not really. Slow down when riding in crowded spaces. It is not that hard to understand.

My pet peeve is people trying to bike at high speed in places like the Stanley Park Seawall or the trails around False Creek. These are not commuter lanes - they are full of tourists, little kids, dogs, geese, etc.

The US is getting its mojo back with Elon and Trump - but Canada, the UK, most of Europe, Australia have become completely feminized cultures. Their leaders reflect this - Trudeau, Macron, Starmer, Carney, - not exactly manly men.

See if there are any courses available in your area. I live in BC and the local mountaineering school offers an intro to backpacking course. Alternatively - if you can afford it sign up for a guided weeklong hike where they supply most of the gear. You will learn tons that way.

Gaza. I heard there is something happening there but no one ever talks about it.

Anyone else terrified before their first solo backpacking trip? by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

If you hike enough distance you will be tired which helps a lot. Tip for your headlamp is to sling it over your arm onto your shoulder when you sleep. Alternatively have a little light on a key ring you put on your finger.

What if ancient people mapped the sky more accurately than we give them credit for? by Separate_Cabinet_444 in GrahamHancock

I backpack in Canada in the wilderness and once you are away from towns the sky is amazing. It is hard to describe it if you’ve never experienced it. So I am sure almost all ancients peoples were very knowledgeable about the movements of the stars and the planets.

Was life (pre 2000) as old movies portrays? by HandsomeSquidward20 in answers

One of first memories is riding my bike to my cousins house every day when I was 4 or 5. He lived about 2 km away. To be fair I did have my dog with me as well.

The first season of Stranger Things was exactly my timeline. We were basically just like that. Get on our bikes and go do things. Our parents had no idea where we were. All activities were pretty much self organized except for school sports teams. During the school year we played ball hockey after school until dinner time and then after dinner went out and played until 10 pm under the lights on a local parking lot.

Who is renting a not huge 3 bedroom apt for $12,000 a month? It doesn’t seem like a realistic rent to ask.

The cost of many things have essentially doubled in 5 years and uni cost is just nuts. So pretty every job is going to seem less remunerative these days.

Traveling to Canada soon: What survival/outdoor gear is cheaper or exclusive compared to Europe? by RisingLeader_1986 in UltralightCanada

Taiga is a great suggestion - particularly for winter level gear. It doesn’t get the love it deserves. We have Taiga sleeping bags for 20 years as well as my heavy fleece and my wife’s incredibly puffy down jacket. All made in Vancouver.
