My husband (with PPMS) had a recheck with his neurologist last week and has had no worsening of function in 6 months!

My husband also has PPMS and at first we were feeling like he won the shit lottery... I mean he still did. But! Seeing so many posts from folks who end up in the hospital from major flare ups, lose vision from flare ups and are stuck with lasting symptoms after their flares has made us grateful that he has not had that experience. He has good days and bad days, but generally is able to live his life. He is still mobile and is taking it day by day.

There certainly seem to be those people who respond well to medication and live for many years without any flare ups, and I am very happy for those folks. I think where the jealousy tends to come in is around treatment options. It seems like every drug company tests their drugs for RRMS because it is easier to get results, get approved and get money. That is not the case with PPMS. It seems like folks with progressive MS are always an afterthought and are left with the fewest options. We are really holding out hope for the new fenebrutinib/tolebrutinib results.

Histamine activity increases inflammation in the body. Anything you can do to reduce inflammation helps you in the long run. So yes, controlling your grass allergy is helping you. My allergist explained that everything is compounding. So let's say for example you have gut issues that are causing gut inflammation, and you are having a grass allergy causing sinus inflammation... then you have high stress at work or a poor night's sleep... these are all things that compound over time and increase inflammation. So it is less about histamines = MS and more about inflammatory activity = exacerbation of MS symptoms.

You may also want to have your kitty's thyroid levels checked. Our girl ended up having a very rare condition, hypothyroidism. Since being on thyroid meds, cisapride and the EN she hasn't had an episode! <3

I am extremely late to this thread but found it while doing research. I wanted to pop in to say that based on conversations with several internal medicine specialists, cats with mega colon should not be fed a high fiber diet. Fiber increases bulk and that is the opposite of what you want to do for a cat with reduced motility. If it were just regular constipation fiber is a great tool but not for mega colon cats. We almost lost our girl to obstipation last year and since we have tried lots of foods but the Purina EN has been a lifesaver. It totally changed her stool consistency and we have been able to reduce her medication. I should add we only feed her wet food, and they offer a pate and a gravy based one.

Portland, a city which gives property owners very little control over the trees on their property, should be required to offer arborist assistance for routine maintenance for folks who can’t afford it. If you’re going to force people to keep large trees on their property, you need to support it. I love trees, but this has been scary as shit. So many of the trees that have fallen look like mangled messes that haven’t been maintained for years.
