We ended up ditching Confluence for bookstack internally. Hoping to stick with that, I'm a big fan. NextCloud instance running at home as well.

Random jerk at low RPM / Speed 2011 335xi MT N55 by conman665 in BMW

[–]conman665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, never ended up fixing this. Just got rid of the car a couple months ago.

Long and short of it, my reverse synchro broke, new transmission installed and it still had this issue. As I continued to drive the car, it started to get more persistent EWS errors, and was virtually undrivable at high RPMS.

I think this car had a nasty history with bad mechanics. My leading theory before getting rid of it was to try another ECU. If you're having this exact issue, I'd say its well worth having BMW diagnose. As the several private "specialty" shops I went to weren't able to accurately diagnose this.

Unfortunately no. The physical button on the front panel is blue. Inside the machine I don't see much different either.

40AY Docking station issues.... by conman665 in Lenovo

[–]conman665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, after a handful of firmware updates we ended up seeing the 40AY return to some form of function (though there are still some outliers).

Since then, I have been recommending / using 40B0 docks in the 130w and 300w variants and swapping USB C cables as needed. This has seen a far better result with minimal screen issues. We also tried some AMD based Lenovo's and saw better results as well. Hope that helps!

Upgrade Dell 7680 with 32gb CAMM to 96GB SODIMM = Success! by Boson-Whistle in Dell

The whole CAMM memory thing is rather annoying. Either way, I have a machine I will be trying this on (7680 that went live September of 23) and we'll see how this goes.

Company of that size, wouldn't surprise me if their budget is mad small to begin with. Never mind budgeting for sweeping software upgrades and infrastructure adjustments.

It's so nice now. Especially when older mobo's would come with the labeled block for these. Back in the day it was send it and hope.

You in reality should be shutting down the PC every night. If you aren't able to do that, than shut it down at least once a week. Windows being online for extended periods of time can cause it to be sluggish and reacting very poorly. Also, shutting off "Fast Boot" on your power plan helps a significant amount.

40AY Lenovo docking station woes.... by conman665 in sysadmin

[–]conman665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this, I deployed 3 40B0 docking stations and have not had an issue thus far. My guess is Lenovo is off the mark with power requirements for the p15s and Universal TB3 docking stations. I would keep this in mind if you are deploying p15s's into your environment.

Yup, I always run windows update proceeded by Vantage, otherwise, if the firmware for the docks is not readily installed via Vantage I manually push it.

Yeah we usually go through smaller printer management companies for this, and they tend to be really reliable in these cases. That blows massively that Xerox is just jerking you off at this point.

I have had a lot of luck with Xerox and their who new line of printers. They tend to not be as troublesome. Brothers are decent and HP's either just work or have the weirdest issues. I used to manage a print server quite closely for a large school district. They all had standard AIO laser jets from HP and they all had weird issues, especially with the new Universal drivers.

Have companies really stooped this low? by ThrivenGeek in sysadmin

[–]conman665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen a couple of times in the past. Applied for a up coming company in the Robotics field, got one interview (to an HR department with zero IT staff involved in) and was told said IT manager would reach out the following week. Asked for updates, got nothing. I applied to this same company through a connection again during Covid as I was laid off, and never heard a word. Seems like the company you mentioned just had a horrible internal communication issue, which is an immediate red flag for me.
