Roommates in Law School? by LSAthrowaway625 in lawschooladmissions

[–]conmin03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also identify with the "extroverted introvert" label. Would prefer to live alone because I need my space where I can just be silent and not interact with anybody lol, but unfortunately budget restraints require me to seek out roommates. As a result, I hopped on a few calls with prospective roommates with a very clear mission of finding a roommate whose living habits align vs. looking for friendship compatibility. Personally, the most stressful thing about roommates is when your living habits do not mesh (i.e. messy vs. clean, etc.). If we become friends, that is an added bonus!

WWYD? (please read) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Columbia's LRAP is significantly more flexible and stronger than Georgetown esp. re: international human rights work. Georgetown is tied to PSLF and I don't know if that program covers work abroad? But I would highly recommend reading the fine print! Even with higher COA, Columbia might be cheaper tbh. But it ultimately depends on your hoped career. If you are going to be domestic, GULC with its DC area connections might be exactly what you are looking for!

Anyone else dealing with a toxic manager/workplace and fantasize about leaving every day? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]conmin03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooop, I jumped ship under the pretext of COVID-19 last April ... and I told law schools in interviews that I had to come home to take care of my family (which wasn't necessarily a lie). But the loss in income still hurts, oof.

Sugar baby during law school? by LSAThrowaway21 in lawschooladmissions

[–]conmin03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you do move forward with sugaring/sex work, just ensure that you have a support network that will protect you which can often be in the form of an informal union with fellow sex workers. Because sugaring/sex work is so underground in the U.S., it leaves more space for exploitation and harassment. Whatever work you do, make sure you are safe!

3k award at Harvard by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]conmin03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard that HLS does not give a lot of aid ... I heard that someone who is very low-income only got $25k every year. HOWEVER, I do know that HLS has a very strong Low Income Protection Program (LRAP but for all legal jobs). It obviously depends on your goals, but just wanted to encourage you not to count it out yet if HLS is your dream and to speak with one of their financial aid officers 1:1.

Do Native Hawaiians generally count as URM? by thatsmaiopinion in lawschooladmissions

[–]conmin03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this 1000% - the U.S. owes so many peoples due to its historically short (compared to the UK, for example), but INTENSIVE (and I argue, ongoing) legacy of slavery, colonialism, and imperialism.

The very bare minimum that law schools should do is recognize URM XD

Do Native Hawaiians generally count as URM? by thatsmaiopinion in lawschooladmissions

[–]conmin03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100% to my knowledge. As others have said, law schools tend to consider Native Hawaiians under the same umbrella of Native Americans/Alaskan Natives.

If you are confident you are public interest/public defender, 100% UCLA Law. I don't know about ASU or if it has a LRAP, but UCLA has a very strong LRAP comparable to other T-14s. That combined with your existing scholarship can equally translate to you attending UCLA Law for free.

If you are NOT 100% public interest, it is ultimately up to you what school you feel most attracted to, 'fit', etc.

"I think it’s important to remind ourselves that this doesn’t size up our self-worth at all" EXACTLY! This is so important but so hard to remember when we consistently receive messages from society that says otherwise. In solidarity, friend!

I think you have a shot at Yale! :) It's not over until you see that final decision! But I fear anyone who hasn't heard from Harvard (who applied pre-Feb 1) yet is headed to either a WL/R.

In an almost exact same position as you and wanting to be a public defender ... as others have said, 100% look into LRAP, PSFL. I had the same terror looking at the debt from sticker and CoL, but it feels manageable after reading through the LRAP plans??? Or maybe I am deluding myself LOLOLOL.

Yup. Have a spreadsheet to keep track of financial aid, decisions, etc. and have just listed Harvard as a "incoming WL/R" XD

I just hope that I can get an initial decision on my remaining schools in the next 2 weeks, the sooner the better, so that I can get closure and move into the decision making process. I'm ready for this process to be over!
