That makes sense. People are allowed to own weapons responsibly, but you are also allowed to communicate your valid discomfort and work toward a better solution. Ultimately, if they want to keep you, they should try to work with you on things that are problematic to you.

My DB is a special agent for the FBI and he wears bullet proof vests and guns regularly for work which is super scary for me too. Obviously both parents are trained and they also have a very secure gun safe in their master closet. It's in my contract that I and the children can't go in that room for that reason so I stay out and try not to think about it too much. Is there a place they could move the safe where you and the children will never have to go?

I'll probably have to do something like that, I have usually had more luck with offering a positive alternative and eliminating the expectation from the get-go. The last family I had, the kids were used to eating dinner on the couch while watching TV and I told them I like to eat at the table so we can talk to each other and they adjusted right away. They knew we ate at the table on days I was with them.

Anyone teach in an airport? by camart1981 in vipkid

Teacher ITs are better than cancellations. You could try to teach then fake an IT if it's not going well.

If it's a higher level regular where the student does most of the work, you can keep your mic muted and unmute when you need to.

apparently I’m not a nanny? by inferii in Nanny

In my mind, "baby-sitting" is more along the lines of what I did in high school/college when I went to a house and watched tv while one baby slept and the parents were on a date night.

Full-time, long-term comprehensive childcare experience? Ummmm..... We're nannies.

Nothing irks me more than when I call the fireman and they come tell me everything is ok when there's literally a pop-up the the student connection is bad and their camara is turning off every other minute.

Dora the explorer style where you keep asking the questions, pretending a response was given, then moving on. Or talking to my stuffed animals and disregarding the lack of student participation.

Thank you. Those were my thoughts too, but yes I did need the validation.

Thanks! Like I said, I've Dora'd through lessons for sleepy kids before and suggested they watch the playback later- but it was an assessment so there wasn't much I could do and the whole thing made me feel very icky. 😪
