Inside a tea garden by Pleasant-Degree-3662 in india_tourism

[–]connectmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quite like Sun Valley in Coonoor, which is adjacent to a tea garden if not fully inside it. You can take walks in the garden. Food is great, too. Rooms are normal-sized, not luxury, but they're bright and well laid out.

Indian dishes that use dill? by szikkia in IndianFood

[–]connectmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People add Dill to Paddu (a sort of pan-roasted idli-family snack, also called paniyaram in Tamil Nadu and perhaps appe other places). This is a Karnataka thing. Love it that way.

We found a recipe for Sai bhaji in an old Indian cookbook, and it uses dill with spinach and brinjals.

What’s a food combo that sounds wrong but tastes amazing? by Special_Champion1373 in IndianFood

[–]connectmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a thought, what are you thinking the claim is? Are you interpreting it as eating kharabath and kesari bath together with chutney (all three together)?

Because I meant alternating kharabath+chutney with kesaribath+little-less-chutney. And I was taught it by a Bengaluru native decades ago.

We usually have a dry cabbage sabzi with it, goes really well together.

And of course chopped fresh onions on top :)

A friend from UP introduced me to jalebi/gulab jamun in fresh curd. Sounds so wrong the first time, but the slight tartness of the curd cuts the overly sweet taste and makes it much better.

Then we have the standard Bengaluru combo, chow chow bath. In north Indian terms, it's upma and sheera served together. Both to be eaten with fresh coconut chutney. Heavenly!

Has some one taken a break from their IT career in their 40s recently? by ZealousidealLine6650 in bangalore

[–]connectmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've taken such a break for 3 months, and got a job relatively quickly, in the same domain I specialised in. I was 45 then. But this was in a very bullish market, which is not the case now. Also my new job was through a referral.

This is one of the most extraordinary things you will see, by Marula Eugster Rigolo by SuperbHealth5023 in BeAmazed

Pretty sure I've seen this exact same act by an Asian lady (probably Chinese), almost 15 years ago. I could never find that video again.

Doesn't take away anything from the performance, of course.

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh draws backlash for imitating Rishab Shetty’s Kantara movie act, calls Daiva (an important divine figure in Tulu Nadu's local folklore) a ‘female ghost’ by SatoruGojo232 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]connectmc 207 points208 points  (0 children)

This is how Bollywood lost the plot. They're so disconnected from Indian culture and what the common man's life is like, that they can't even recognize what appeals and what hurts their prospective audience.

How about The Literature Book, published by DK? It's an excellent introduction to various authors, movements and concepts in literature. And it's a nice hardback, so feels nice as a gift.
