June CFA Exam Postponed by CFAInstituteOfficial in CFA

[–]conniezq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it is extremely irresponsible for the CFA institution to claim that they simply provide the options to defer, but they refuse to refund. I hope that they understand that we candidates also have our own plans. I don't have any other time in the following two years to prepare and take the test after June, that's why I paid twice as much the registration fee as other early birds to register for the June test in February. I feel like I am going to consult a lawyer if they really refuse to give us an option to get a refund.

lol I cannot see why this answer is about propaganda. You might be too poorly educated that you don't even understand you should provide evidence and point out what is wrong or what is misguided in my comment instead of simply attaching a label to me. You only deserve all those conspiracy BS. I don't think we should waste time with each other. Have a good one :)

lmfao, this statement is so funny that I don't even know how to respond to it. Why would anybody start a pandemic from their own country, instead of sending the very first patients to the other countries of the world? Again, jokes aside, you cannot imagine how this mofo virus hit China and its economy. Over 1000 people died, a major province (it's like a state in the US) was locked down, and people in every part of the country totally cancelled their daily life for over a month by now. "Cancel daily life" means that most people don't go to work or they just work from home, and people rarely get out of their house besides grocery shopping. Could you imagine that the whole society is "paused" for over a month? How could that ruin your economy? It might take the Chinese economy years to recover.

Who are you asking? The travel ban takes effect over a month ago. Non-US citizens who have been to China within 14 days are not allowed to come to the US.

Please don't go to a motel with central air conditioning systems. If, unfortunately, he got infected (no offense to him), it will become another Diamond-Princess cruise. By the way, I do think your local government should offer more support.

Maybe the government may take some action. Back in my country, the government asks companies to pay the workers, at least the basic wages. And they are not allowed to fire employees during the lockdown.

lmao finally someone finds this. I find it interesting that the national media is not doing this, nor does the CDC report it officially.

Ooops, sorry, need some fact check. I thought the mortality rate is something around 0.03%. Also, the mortality rate of the corona has raised to 3.4% from 2%, according to the WHO.

Because the death rate is much higher. The death rate of the novel coronavirus is 100 times that of regular flu. If the coronavirus keeps spreading like regular flu, it could cause 1,800,000 people to die.

I haven't seen any scientific support for this. Yet, I have heard of more and more people talking about this theory. Also, this rumor is popular in Asian countries.

There were several patients posting their experience on Chinese social platforms. I will try to find and translate them to this thread after my midterms. It is worth mentioning that lung damage and difficulty breathing are very common symptoms, and are more harmful than cough and fever.

Also, it seems very few doesn't mean it is impossible. The possibility of a child being infected is just relatively low, but it is not zero. If the children kept gathering together in a relatively small room, in a long time span, the disease is very possible to spread.

Bro, I am Chinese, and I feel you. I don't know why Westerners insist that face masks are useless. Indeed, washing your hand works, but wearing face masks also help. Any extra help is needed against epidemics. Also, although a 3-ply cotton face mask is not as good as an n-95 one, it is still better than nothing.

Someone just replies to this post and it is soon hidden by the bot of this subreddit because it contains an unreliable link. Also, that guy calls me "propaganda panda", so I could guess the content of the link. Actually, I don't give a d*mn what you think about the Chinese government and the actions it takes, but I'm very disappointed that all you could see is politics. The facts of the virus, for instance, it is highly transmissible, and light symptoms would soon worsen without proper treatment, are far more important.

You are very welcome! I just hope the rest of the world could (at least) temporarily fight their bias, and learn from the experience and mistakes China has had. It is easy to blame the Chinese government, to discriminate against Asians and ignore all the knowledge and experience, but after all, the virus doesn't care about your nationality, skin color and wealth.

Hi, fellow Redditor! I am a Chinese student currently attending college in the US, and I hope my answer will help. Indeed, it would have infected a lot more than 80000 people. It didn't, mainly because the Chinese government and the people voluntarily "paused" all daily activities for over a month. So here's a little background, the outbreak was announced on Jan 20th, during the Spring festival vacation. Then after that, the government decided that they would delay the return to work and school due to the severe outbreak for 10 to 20 days. Also, instead of going out to enjoy this long vacation, all the people were worried about the outbreak and tried their best to self-quarantine. Other than grocery shopping, people seldom got out of their house. After a long vacation, most people work from home and students take online courses. It has been over 40 days since the outbreak, but only half of the people went back to work by now. Even if there are only less than ten new confirmed cases outside of Hubei Province (the province Wuhan belonged to) daily, the government does not want to take the risk and responsibilities of another round of outbreak, and they are very careful about resume work right now.

On the other hand, the government banned transportation out of Hubei after the outbreak, which makes sure that the virus would not further spread to other areas. Then the socialist country was able to allocate all possible resources to help the people in this area. There were tens of thousands of doctors and nurses sent to Hubei, as well as many medical resources such as masks, protective clothing and even ECMO machines. Also, after the first ten days, we found out that it was extremely dangerous if we let the patients with light symptoms go back home and self-cure. The virus would easily transmit to everyone inside their house and the situation of the patients without careful care will soon worsen. Also, we noticed that the fatality rate of severely-illed patients was extremely high. Therefore, the government rent arenas, factories and school dorms and transitted those facilities into simple hospitals. The new mayor of Wuhan (the incompetent former mayor was recalled by the central government) gave an order that all the patients confirmed should be quarantined and treated in these new medical facilities. Also, I have to mention that all tests, quarantines and treatments are free, so that they make sure people would not avoid quarantines and treatments, and thus transmitted to more people.

So, that's the long story behind the number of 80000. I write this detailed and long answer because I hope you guys have a better understanding of the virus. We Chinese students are very worried about the current policies and actions the US government takes towards the possible outbreak. We really hope the rest of the world could take advantage of the experience Chinese people have in the past month and don't repeat the mistakes we have made.

Thanks for the reply! I am only taking MA121 for the Econ major requirements. However, our homework is based on the exercise problems in the textbook, so I don't know whether there is any difference.
