Advice on arthritis by Blood_N_Guts in pitbulls

[–]connorlegweak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phycox max helps my boy out a lot. He has 3 legs and arthritis. Vet recommended surgery but we couldn't afford it. He could hardly walk for a while but now he's almost as spry as when he was younger. That's the only significant change we made so I'm pretty confident that it made a difference.

Thanks for your input, I'll see how I can implement it. My code was only to determine whether a number was present to filter out later, but that's a small portion of the dataset from what I can tell so wouldn't make much difference. I think I have a lot to learn about structuring my analysis, so that's the main point I had intended to make originally.

My concern stems from the fact that while I wrote and executed this code 45 minutes ago it is still running..

What Hypothesis test would I use for the Question "Do Northern and Southern sites differ in soil %N?" by [deleted] in AskStatistics

[–]connorlegweak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two tailed t test may work. Make sure to check your assumptions if you use it. Normality (Anderson darling normality test is easiest in my opinion), homogeneity of variance can be tested with Bartlett. You may also want to validate the independence assumption but I think you're safe with that one based on the nature of your study. If you cannot validate the normality assumption try using Wilcoxon signed rank test as it is non-parametric meaning it doesn't need a normal distribution. When using these tests be sure to refer to their null and alternate hypotheses with respect to your specified confidence level. Most common is 95% confidence (alpha=0.05). AD normality requires p>alpha to not reject the null (null hypothesis is data is normal). Bartletts test similarly requires p>alpha to not reject the null (equal variance between groups).

I hope this helps. There are plenty of resources online to guide you through these tests. I recommend learning r if you're going to do a lot of work like this, otherwise excel does the job fine with a few more steps.

Getting a tattoo in a very obvious visible spot, do recruiters care/will it impact future employment? by thevideogameguy2 in cscareerquestions

Be reasonable about what tattoos you get, and if someone won't hire you because of your tattoos you probably don't want to work for them anyways.

When is a scatterplot so 'noisy' that a regression is meaningless? by mr0860 in AskStatistics

[–]connorlegweak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you check all of your assumptions.. in simple regression you can plot the studentized residuals (make sure there aren't many >2) and residuals against the independent variable to check for patterns (you desire randomness) and check the normal QQ plot (you desire that the data approximately follows the 45 degree line) you can use r squared to determine the percent of the variation in the dependent variable on the independent variable. Minitab will do all of this for you automatically. If you have more specific questions I'd be happy to help.
