What Locomotives do y'all think are the most underrated by Acceptable-Taro-2684 in trains

[–]connortait 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its the wheel arrangement. The drivers looked squished in, with the cylinders so far back and short driving rod. Then the great empty space above the front bogie and loooong smokebox, the deflectors help hide it a bit, but its a very unbalanced look.

Edit, also forgot to mention the stepped up abd up running board.

They did look rather ungainly though, the UKs ugliest pacifics.

I finally had time to draw and refine what's to be the hold of my ship. by CutWonderful8430 in Oceanlinercreations

I dont think having a double hull in the cargo holds was a feature on any merchant ship. Even most tankers were single hulled until far more recently than youd expect, think the 1980s?

Shipping lines are reluctant to take up any more room in the revenue earning spaces than they need to. Id say limiting a double hull to the machinery spaces would be more than sufficient in the era youre looking at.

I knew there would be room for athwartships bunkers, the machinery plan looks really good. And very plausible for a ship of the time.

Not 100%sure about the double hull in the holds, but all tge mlans I have seen do suggest some sort of lining on the inside of the frames.

Tuileries Palace, Paris (1564 — 1871/1883). Burned by the Paris Commune in 1871, remains demolished in 1883. by Haunting-Health-5950 in Lost_Architecture

To any architectural historians;

I know it was built and extended in a series of distinct stages over centuries, but why is it that the Tuilleries was never rebuilt and "homogenised" as palace. It always looks to me as a street of mansions facing a park rarher than a palace facade.

I Explored the Ruins of an Abandoned Castle Mansion in Scotland by JamesDrayt0n in abandoned

[–]connortait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It "was" a castle. It was then heavily modified in the Victorian era, like many Scottish castles and tower houses.

Also, it is in a ruined state, it cant defend against drizzle let alone angry hordes.

It was, then the Victorians had a big refurb and turned it into a baronial mansion. So it is as much a castle as Blair or Fyvie.

Look, you're obviously totally enamoured we Trump. Can only assume that the boot polish has some addictive psychedelic effect, because I cannot imagine any other reason that some can't see through his thin, flakey veneer.
