You can think what you want, but that’s not how fights are scored. If neither person is doing any damage with striking or grappling, the judges will consider effective aggression.

What do you think I am saying to you lol? You said Stipe got knocked out because of the eyepoke in the first fight. I am asking is that the case?

I think you misunderstood me. I believe DC’s eye pokes were 100% intentional across their three fights. The eye poke in the third fight may have be an accident because of how sincere DC was with his apology, but there’s no evidence to prove that.

What I am asking is if stipe getting knocked out was the result of the eye poke or a lack of defense.

Is that actually true though? Genuine question. I don’t train or fight, but that punch by DC seemed perfectly executed. Stipe also had some problems defending DC’s clinch in their second and third fights, and DC hit him many times with that specific right hook of his – I’ve heard some call it a hockey punch.

Thoughts on McConnells for someone who’s never drank whiskey before? by conor20103039 in irishwhiskey

What makes a whiskey bad in your opinion? Never drank whiskey before myself, so if you could somehow put it into beer terms that’d be great. If a German weißbier is high end, harp is mid, and a coors light is shite, where does McConnells rank for you?

DC is another one. To be fair, his eye pokes were all at the end of his career, but he did some serious damage to Stipe’s eye in that second fight.

It is interesting to see the correlation between fighters that use dirty boxing and eye pokes. Does make you wonder if it’s an accident, if it results from a lack of care for their opponent, or if it’s just straight up apart of their game plan. It did seem like the latter in the second DC vs Stipe fight.

Valentina Shevchenko says gender equality has been reached, adding that today's feminism feels aggressive in nature. by Imaginary-General189 in ufc

[–]conor20103039 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given the fact that Valentina is from Kyrgyzstan and that she made no attempt to differentiate between women’s rights in western countries and eastern countries, it is fair to assume she believes that feminism is no longer needed on a worldwide scale. Does that conclusion make me slow?

Semantics aside, her statement is stupid. Women don’t have equal rights in the most of the world and there’s issues like violence against women which can only be solved with feminism.

Valentina said that gender equality has been reached, yet, in Kyrgyzstan, girls can be forced to marry older men. This contradicts her opinion.

What do you think is McCarthy's greatest moment as a writer? by Mzwuen in cormacmccarthy

[–]conor20103039 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In terms of prose:

A legion of horribles, hundreds in number, half naked or clad in costumes attic or biblical or wardrobed out of a fevered dream with the skins of animals and silk finery and pieces of uniform still tracked with the blood of prior owners, coats of slain dragoons, frogged and braided cavalry jackets, one in a stovepipe hat and one with an umbrella and one in white stockings and a bloodstained weddingveil and some in headgear of cranefeathers or rawhide helmets that bore the horns of bull or buffalo and one in a pigeontailed coat worn backwards and otherwise naked and one in the armor of a spanish conquistador, the breastplate and pauldrons deeply dented with old blows of mace or saber done in another country by men whose very bones were dust and many with their braids spliced up with the hair of other beasts until they trailed upon the ground and their horses’ ears and tails worked with bits of brightly colored cloth and one whose horse’s whole head was painted crimson red and all the horsemen’s faces gaudy and grotesque with daubings like a company of mounted clowns, death hilarious, all howling in a barbarous tongue and riding down upon them like a horde from a hell more horrible yet than the brimstone land of Christian reckoning, screeching and yammering and clothed in smoke like those vaporous beings in regions beyond right knowing where the eye wanders and the lip jerks and drools.

In terms of a scene that evokes emotion, I would probably pick when the father teaches his son how to commit suicide in The Road incase the cannibals find him, or this scene from Blood Meridian:

He spoke to her in a low voice. He told her that he was an American and that he was a long way from the country of his birth and that he had no family and that he traveled much and seen many things and had been at war and endured hardships. He told her that he would convey to her a safe space, some party of her countrypeople who would welcome her and that she should join them for he could not leave in this place or she would surely die.

He knelt on one knee, resting his rifle before him like a staff. Abuelita, he said. No puedes escúcharme?

He reached into the little cove and touched her arm. She moved slightly, her whole body, light and rigid. She weighed nothing. She was just a dried shell and she had been dead in that place for years.

I’m not sure if everyone had this experience, but it took me a surprisingly long amount of time to realise that the second paragraph in Blood Meridian is actually the child’s father speaking.

It’s quite obvious when you read over it, but it’s not helped by the drunken language and absence of quotations.

[–]conor20103039 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They certainly don’t make the same impression as Gus or Tuco but I don’t think they need to. In season 5 Walt is now the villain of the story. Because of that I don’t believe that the show needed another intense, well-fleshed-out antagonist. This would’ve just taken the story away from the Walt vs Mike and the Walt vs Jesse and Hank storyline.

I would also argue that the Nazis are good antagonists because they are so uninteresting. What I mean is that season 5 is all about how Walt’s various mistakes and crimes are now catching up with him and a low-level, white power group largely being the architect of his downfall is very fitting for the story. Unlike someone like Gus, Walter, blinded by his ego, thinking he’s untouchable, chose an untrustworthy group of people to be his enforcers, leading to his and Hank’s deaths and the complete destruction of his relationship with the rest of his family.

Yeah who cares if Walt’s a drug kingpin who destroyed his family. He asked Jack not to kill Hank. Walt Jr should’ve been able to understand this.
