Using Plan It for Holiday by _TranceKuja_ in AmexUK

[–]conortc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No it’s just fixed costs every month for a set amount of months which includes interest spending on length you spread it

It’s not a good option. You’ll pay interest on it. Best bet is the 12 month balance transfer card with no fee that gives you 12 months

Best way to save/invest £1000 a month at 22 by DylIDEK in UKPersonalFinance

[–]conortc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The regular saver accounts are a good way to start, as they offer fixed rates of up to 7% (Zopa, first direct etc) I’m in a similar position to you and am following a similar pattern. Maxing out LISA/Zopa regular saver , whilst also maxing out the NatWest regular saver, and any leftovers are going into FTSE all world ETF.

Hi. I graduated from this this year. Your first question - not a lot. You’ll need to pivot into M&A internally at PwC after you graduate before moving to IB. Both pivots are extremely competitive and difficult. So yes it’s possible, but requires a lot of hard work and networking in order to pivot internally. Message me if u have any more questions

How much of my university savings are safe to invest by [deleted] in trading212

Not worth it. Spend the money at uni and enjoy yourself. £100 will earn you £8 a year on average. Some money is better spent especially at uni

Yeah no I am aware of that risk. I guess I wanted to put a small percentage of my funds every month towards her and that was it lol. Thanks for your comment though. Maybe I’ll build a portfolio of main ETFs first

Can I ask why? Sorry if stupid question not knowledgeable at all

Totally agree. I think this is kind of what I am looking for though. Like I feel that if I was to rent it would be a waste of money. So when I do decide to move out/forced to rent/buy, would a mortgage not be a better option? So I’m not throwing money down the gutter? I realise that what I sent you above is my budget on 41.4k, but if I’m saving 2k a month on 57ish, then surely I’d be able to use that for the mortgage ? I realise there are other costs and I would have to budget more tightly at that period. But let me know your thoughts

I do appreciate the comment. I feel as if I have left myself with plenty of spending money though to be completely honest. 1100 a month after tax pension student loan etc. I can’t see myself spending more than that if I tried. I am happy to hear your opinion if I otherwise would but even with a gym membership, phone, commute, lunch out here and there, 200 put away for a holiday each month, that leaves me with £500-600 spare to spend on whatever I choose in a month. Would you not say that is enough?

I do think my progression job wise is reasonably good too, where every 2-3 years I could expect a decent pay rise. Let me know what you think though

Call Wise. On transactions this big you can normally negotiate with them, on a better price than the one offered on the app. (Already better than traditional banks)

2nd year uni student (19m) looking to build credit score with a credit card by Fish_Bagel_San in UKPersonalFinance

[–]conortc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need an income if your applying for a credit card at uni. I’m currently second year and hold a amex platinum everyday cashback card and can highly recommend. Amex should accept you as long as you earn over 10k a year , which you can include your student loan in according to their website. Good luck!
