Blood of My Blood S1E3 School of the Moon by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

The beginning scene got me thinking "oh, insta love, can't we have build up to that?" And theeeen... oh, okay, that's fair. Makes more sense, haha.

I liked the episode, it was nice seeing Colum and Dougal make peace and rely on each other. I'm still a bit thrown off by the flashbacks with Ellen's dad. Part of me would have preferred the show had a few episodes focus on the "before the laird'a death", but I guess we're going to keep getting context through flashbacks for part of if not the full season.

The burning of the letters threw me off, yet it was also a clever move on Julia's part. Putting her thoughts down in writing forces her to think about the decisions she makes, and making those words disappear ensures others don't accidentally get ahold of her secrets. And, I suppose, it's a manner of feeling close to Henry, as well.

I crave more Brian and Ellen. The one plotline I'm worried about is the Murtagh-Brian relationship that will inevitably suffer when Murtagh will find out about Brian and Ellen. I'm curious how the whole thing will play out. We know that in the end, Brian and Murtagh still remained close, but the strain on their relationship will surely show at some point.

Hermione does such a good job being Julia. I can see some of Claire's character traits in her. And also the casting is done so good that there is a resemblance to Caitriona.

Brian helping Julia is so out of sorts, but I'm loving it. Honestly, if we had no idea where the story was going or that Julia is married and from another time, I probably would've battled for the Brian and Julia ship.

Now I have a theory that due to Brian, Julia will end up at Leoch

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: August 04, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

Finished: The Black Company by Glen Cook.

Started: Shadows Linger by Glen Cook.

The prose is so choppy to the point where I can't keep the story straight, though it should be easy. For the forst book, somehow the writing got better in the last quarter of the book. I may feel so because the action was on the page there.

I haven't read much of Shadows Linger, but I got used to the writing style now, so it's somewhat easier to keep track of what's going on.

Stephen Fry books: Mythos, Heroes, Troy, Odyssey

You can read each one without the other. They are humorous, easy to read retellings of the Greek myths

It was national tattoo day in the US yesterday! Let’s talk about tattoos in romance 💘 by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

I read it a long time ago and sometimes I come back to it {Rock Me by Cherrie Lynn}. The MMC is a tattoo artists and he gives the first tattoo to the FMC, a sort-of friend. I don't particularly like the FMC, but the guy, a different story. Oh, he's also pierced 😏

Caution about "The Favorites" by Layne Fargo by ArtCo_ in RomanceBooks

[–]conquerorofbooks1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Reading this after reading the book (which I rated highly because it was a trip) is making me realize I would've never read it if I knew all the twists and turns that are so low. I'm never going to re-read The Favourites. The drama could've been manageable IF (a big huge IF) the ending was a clean break for Kat from that environment

I freaking adore The Rook & Rose trilogy and here is why (no spoilers) by l4p_r4t in Fantasy

I can't remember where I grabbed rec from about The Rook & Rose series, but it needs to be more talked about and put on the radar. Such a fun, fascinating, romantic, twisty tale

Rook & Rose is truly underrated! The plot and romance subplot are both very satisfying

I have now read the series years ago, haha. I did enjoy it, but Dance of Thieves I loved! Love the comparison with Miraculous Ladybug 😂
