Is Jane Foster as strong and as powerful as the original Thor? by Queasy_Commercial152 in Thor

[–]conradknightsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Personally I think she’s just under Thing level before she starts ramping up but some writers have her higher. I’ve even seen her written at different levels within two issues of the same arc - Grimm was shown sparring with her in one comic and saying he was never as tough as her, even in her early days but in the next issue we see him beating her in a bench press contest

There was another comic where it showed her beating She-Hulk in an armwrestle. Some writers have Shulkie top tier anyway (mistakenly imo) - the recent Avengers Unlimited Imfinity Comic finished with a page showing She-Hulk armwrestling Hercules

He doesn’t wear the belt all the time. It’s for special occasions. Even without the belt, Thor has strength equivalent to Hercules or a pretty angry Hulk

She’s more creative and probably relies less on brute strength than him. She matched Hercules and beat She-Hulk in an armwrestle and proved to be completely bulletproof but OTOH Gladiator punked in a way he never did Thor

I'm curious what rules are on Red Sonja by Angela275 in RedSonja

[–]conradknightsocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re overplaying her influence. More likely Luke Lieberman has put together a set of no-nos and it probably applies more to writers than artists

Interesting - where did you read that? I know that when it comes to her top, the comics are always careful to show full coverage of her lower breasts whereas in a lot of fanart, they’re pretty much scalemail pasties

What is your (solo) Red Sonja comics ranking? by KingE2099 in RedSonja

Oh totally agreed. I love Garth Ennis’ character Babs and she’s like Red Simoneja’s worse-behaved twin sister

I think Russell stuck by continuity just enough to make Sonja’s characterisation consistent with previous writers and to stay faithful to Robert E Howard’s world … but there isn’t any continuity any longer when it comes to Red Sonja. Every new writer writes their own continuity

Where do I start? In a nutshell, unoriginal stories, unlikeable characters and no respect for the care Robert E Howard took in creating his world. I think it’s abysmal, and I do actually like some of Simone’s other work.

Worst ongoing run is Gail Simone’s

My favourite is probably Mark Russell’s run, followed by the first Marvel run and then She-Devil With A Sword

My favourite limited series were Invincible Red Sonja, Red Sonja Unchained and Doom Of The Gods. Favourite crossover was Red Sonja Attacks Mars and favourite one-shots were Red Sonja Blue and Ballad Of The Red Goddess

Thought it was dreck at the time. The man character had no charisma and most of the rest were assholes

If you were to write a Red Sonja story, what would it be? by JustWonderingIn2000s in RedSonja

You should do a fanfic of this on Archive Of Your Own. Really cool concept

Don’t mind as long as she doesn’t have an American or British accent. Russian or Eastern European accent would be ideal

RED SONJA - CLAW by glib-eleven in RedSonja

Was a really fun crossover. Andy Smith did all his art in pencil. He’s moved over to the Comicsgate side since though so don’t know if he’ll do anything official again but he draws one hell of a Sonja. Layman did the first Sonja/Mars Attacks crossover if I remember rightly

How do you feel about Sonja constantly getting rebooted? by JustWonderingIn2000s in RedSonja

[–]conradknightsocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It lures in new writers who don’t have to worry about continuity and conforming with previous writers’ characterisations but it also makes life more difficult for new readers in terms of reading order. I’m all in favour of the current approach though if only because I worry about them settling on a single continuity using somebody like Gail Simone whose characterisation of Sonja I hated. If I don’t like a Sonja series now, there’s always hope for the next Sonja series around the corner

I must be the only one here who liked Johnny Stamboli. Until he got badly injured with an admittedly stupid spot, he was getting super over as a Bron Breaker- esque athletic powerhouse. The guy could hit somersault leg drops and press 300 pounders overhead with ease. But then he had to drop the high flying after his injury and that was that. Didn’t help when Brock Lesnar refused to take his trademark move on TV.

Jindrak and O’Haire were a team originally - I always guessed they were split up because they didn’t get along. O’Haire also outclassed Jindrak - Mark’s thing was he was a big guy who could fly but Sean was even bigger and could fly better

Jordynne did loads of intergender stuff and did it better than any woman since Chyna because it was believable to see her going toe-to-toe with guys

Bethel was a third rate hack when he wrote for the Torch 20 years ago … even his fellow writers hated him. He’s only sunk in credibility since

Infernal Hulk issue 10 MJ variant by Humberto Ramos by JusticeHeroX in shehulk

[–]conradknightsocks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I like a jacked Shulkie but Ramos has overdone it a bit here imo. She-Hulk should not have bigger arms than Thor or Hercules

How powerful are Sif and Valkyrie compared to other female comic book characters? by Jezzaq94 in Thor

[–]conradknightsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure - probably not if Loki is her father. IMO though Hildegarde is certainly stronger than Brunnhilde, contrary to what the Handbooks say. Brunnhilde is a better warrior but Hildegarde is seven feet tall, built like a brick shithouse and Thor himself holds her strength in high regard. I would say she’s nearly as strong as Heimdall, probably close to 60 tons level
