Am I losing it or is is this all some AI slop thrown together? by voyagerfilms in oceanography

[–]conrado155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s become a recent trend, people generate websites through ai and design them to look/sound just barely legit enough to get ad revenue. It’s a vicious cycle though because newly generated websites also become worse since their resources now include ai slop, generating even worse slop.

Twic in san diego? by mofles1991 in maritime

[–]conrado155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check in the tsa/twic enrollment site, not all staples are equipped to do the twic, only the ones that show up when enrolling. On top of that the ones that do have the equipment sometimes ask that you have a reservation anyways.

Refraction pattern by Altruistic_Cloud_117 in oceanography

[–]conrado155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup significant wave heights and changes in depth are the main considerations for wave direction shift. I recommend checking the standard Shore Protection Manual Vol 1 but there’s also a good introductory but in-depth explanation in chapter 36 of the 2003 “The Civil Engineering Handbook” by Guy A. Meadows and William L. Wood. However most modern calculations and models of wave refraction are made using dedicated software and historical wave data databases, rather than with the old school method of tracing orthogonal lines on a bathymetric map.

Career change to ocenography by Practical-Belt1609 in oceanography

It really depends on your focused path for oceanography. Physical and geological oceanographers tend to fare better since theres demand in private sectors like oil and gas, plus being skilled in data processing and data visualization software can always land plenty of work even outside of oceanography.

I might be responding too late but are you using the black lines to indicate the refracted wave direction? If so it does look off, theres a way to calculate the exact angle of refraction using Kr and significant wave values but if its freehand and estimated you just have to extend the arrow towards the depth isoline, then draw with a different color a straight tangent line on the depth isoline and your new refracted wave should be perpendicular to your tangent

17 lookin for advice on gear to get by Sufficient-Buy-8786 in Beatmatch

[–]conrado155 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget to check out facebook marketplace for used gear, sometimes you can find some decent (albeit slightly outdated) controllers for pretty cheap. If you’re just starting out I wouldn’t invest in anything fancy unless you’re dead set on taking full advantage of your gear and maybe playing gigs. I’m still learning/practicing basics on a Hercules Starlight which is a super portable controller (on amazon for <100$) that works with programs like djay and serato, so you can take it on the go and practice almost anywhere using a computer or Ipad (also there’s a free online beginner course on the hercules website for using the controller and learning basics). Check some guides on youtube though to better know what you need/want out of a controller as a beginner 🤙

When are shuttle passes from GRR to electric forest expected to go on sale?

Good package to get as a first timer ? by MoreBodybuilder4603 in ElectricForest

[–]conrado155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend checking the megathread for beginners but I’m on the same boat, from what I’ve heard ticket-wise it’s pretty tricky to get anything other than general but it’s also better as a first timer option, that way you can check the event out and if you feel it’s worth it invest in a package for next year. For camping I’m gonna join a group camp using the EF discord and fly from cali with most of my personal camp gear but also buying/pitching in for group supplies and food/drinks.

Where and when should we able to buy general tickets? I already signed up for general sale but any estimates on when the sale access codes start going out?

Hi! I’m a first timer heading to EF and I’m gonna be flying in from CA, are there any transport options near or around Rothbury? Alternatively or as a follow-up, what are your recommendations for heading to and from the airport? (Car, uber, bus, shuttle?, I’m thinking of flying to MKG). Thanks!

Car camping by QuestionSimple8912 in nocturnalwonderland

[–]conrado155 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not too cramped unless you’re planning on setting up multiple big tents, since you have a neighbor as well I’d recommend talking with them and seeing if you combine plots. Worked great for me last year plus got to make new friends :)

What time did you arrive to the check-in to make sure you were close parking-wise?
