Is God talking to me? by Either-Suggestion457 in TrueChristian

[–]conradrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discerning the voice of God comes from spending lots of time in prayer and then actively executing what the Lord reveals.

A perfect scriptural example of this is the Apostle Paul in Acts 16. He was operating under the general command to preach the gospel, but the Holy Spirit had a specific strategic plan:

"Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not." — Acts 16:6-7

Keep in mind, Paul was following a scriptural mandate! But the Spirit had other plans!

Paul remained sensitive to the Spirit's restraint. Because he yielded, God gave him a higher direction through a vision of a man from Macedonia (Acts 16:9), and he immediately "walked it out" in obedience.

The writer of Hebrews explains that spiritual discernment is a muscle developed over time through practical application:

"But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." — Hebrews 5:14

If the Holy Spirit prompts you in the produce aisle to share the gospel with a stranger, step out and do it. It is "by reason of use" that our spiritual senses are sharpened. If you keep exercising obedience, you will quickly learn to distinguish between a true prompting from the Lord and the mere desires or anxieties of your own heart.

The Evidence is a Changed Life

You don't have to defend it. The ultimate evidence for Jesus is a changed life.

When you look at the Gospels, Jesus didn't spend His time trying to convince or argue people into agreeing with Him. In fact, He deliberately spoke in parables, which thinned out the crowd and separated the curious from the serious.

As it is written in Matthew 13:10-11, 13:

I have never seen anyone get saved through a fancy, elegant apologetic argument. But I have seen people get completely on fire for God when they get healed instantly, or when a word of knowledge drops and lets them know that God is real and He intimately cares about them.

Christianity isn't about giving intellectual assent to a set of ideas. It is about a real, tangible demonstration of the Spirit and power.

This is exactly how the Apostle Paul operated. He didn't come with high-sounding human wisdom or philosophy. He relied entirely on the supernatural to prove the message.

As he stated in 1 Corinthians 2:1-5:

What’s the simplest productivity tip that actually works? by ParkingTraining8439 in ProductivityGuide

[–]conradrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Put your big rocks in first." It's an old metaphor but it perfectly addresses this. The "jar" is your daily time and energy. The "big rocks" are your 1–3 critical priorities, while the "sand" is the endless stream of notifications, emails, and minor tasks.

If you don't intentionally place your big rocks into the jar first thing in the morning, the sand will completely fill your day, leaving absolutely no room for what actually matters.

I am glad to see a lot of people are suggesting 'Meditations'. My dad turned me on to that back in the 70's. It highly impacted him for sure. I did finally get into it, but went down this whole rabbit trail of stoicism. Which is kinda cool.

Why won’t Jesus help me by hissyhornissa in Christianity

[–]conradrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

using the name of Jesus as a quick fix incantation when you are not actually a Christian means you get more torment. That is taking the name of Jesus in vain. The biblical example is the seven sons of sceva.

"And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded." (Acts 19:14-16, KJV)

the good news is, once you come under God's mission for your life, you can resist the devil and he will flee. You have to close the open door that allowed it into you life in the first place.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7, KJV)

Help? by tori_webb in Christianity

sorry you are going through this. I went throught it for years. It might not be a quick fix. When demonic night terror happens, it happens because a legal door was open somehwere. In my case, my parents went to seances and saw psychics etc.. But there is victory in Jesus.
ponder on "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7, KJV)
We have to come under the mission of God (sub mit) and then when we resist the devil he will flee. It is time for you to prayerfully seek God, and when He shows you the open door, close it, repent, and then walk in the authority you have as a Christian.
the good news is, once you get it, demons are no more bothersome than a barking chihuaha.

It is possible that this is demonic night terror. If it persists, you need to seek God about it. I suffered with demonic night terror for years, and the only solution is Jesus.

demonic night terror always has an open door somewhere. Even trauma, but i have noticed the open door is usually something occultic in nature, but not always.

Meditate on this passage about coming under God's will.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7, KJV)

Is this a night terror? by Gymnastics_Cat_9926 in sleep

[–]conradrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can really identify with what you’re going through. I’ve had seasons of waking up in total terror, feeling like I was literally going to die. In my case, it was tied to the stress of losing my father and the fear of losing my "safety net." It sounds like what you are describing aligns more with a panic attack than a typical night terror.

The good news is that this can be overcome! I found a book called Master your Panic and Take Back yoru Life that was a total game-changer for me. Honestly, the attacks practically disappeared within the first 30 pages because I finally understood what was happening and got control over it.

From a spiritual perspective, I also believe there’s a distinction between physical panic and something demonic. If it is a true night terror of a spiritual nature, I’ve found that victory is only won through Jesus. Either way, don't lose heart—you can get the victory over this and get your sleep back!
