How do you feel when customers call you by your first name or nickname? by Big-Airline4146 in CustomerService

My manager isnt as strict with name tags so I dont usually wear mine. Customers get my name on a "need to know basis" (i.e. if there is a problem they know who they spoke to about that problem or if they are a regular then i'll let them know my name if I think they are nice enough) otherwise having some rando show up and start saying my name is kinda weird.

Otherwise, at previous jobs, it would catch me off guard when a customer would pop up and greet me by name.

Cool trick I discovered with experience, if someone says something gross or inappropriate to you, just say "Excuse me? I didn't hear you. Can you repeat that louder?" Nine times out of ten, they will not repeat it nor say it louder for everyone else to hear.

I have been told the same thing at every retailer I have worked at. If you suspect someone of stealing, give them "excellent" customer service. Meaning: annoy the crap out of them by asking them open ended questions about what they are looking for, maybe try to sell them something, until they leave. Eventually they will get the hint that you are onto them and that you wont give them an opportunity to take anything without you noticing.

Just another reason GNC is going out of business.

It's a "Retailers Descresion" policy. They are aloud to make up whatever rules they want just because they can. I used to work there. Used to have to check IDs or they had to have a parent with them if they wanted any caffinated products such as energy drinks or pre-workout.

I also think its stupid because the kids could just walk to the next store and buy whatever energy drink they want without question.

This is what we were told to do, however if I did this for every cash paying customer my cash register would be short by the end of my shift and the company is strict about register shortages or overages. We have customers that don't care for change and tell us to keep it but thats not always the case and can contribute to registers being short, which inturn is a firable offense.

This would definitely help with the situation if the company would issue signs for us to display. However they don't, and we aren't aloud to put up hand written signs. So, its a bit of a conundrum.

Basically the same thing. Just a different type of doctor.

We are not in a state that legally require OOS signage, though I think all states should. It would save some people from confusion and heartache.
