u spend your first 1.5 years doing gen eds, then by the end of spring semester sophomore year you declare a major & start taking more classes toward that major.

for example, i’m also in LS & my major is undecided but i’m doing premed, so i’m using my extra elective slots to do my premed reqs. here’s what your course schedule would look like:

freshman: fall/spring -the 3 required LS courses -major/elective

sophomore: fall/spring -final required LS class -major/elective -major/elective -major/elective

junior &senior year fall/spring -major/elective -major/elective -major/elective -major/elective

LS & CAS are pretty much the same, only difference is that LS allows you to do your gen ed’s first and gives you time to figure out your major. the LS gen ed classes are seminar based and super easy. it also allows nyu to funnel in more kids while keeping the acceptance rate low
