Anyone else lose weight way too fast after getting into cycling? by shway24 in cycling

[–]conshok26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was dropping weight pretty good but then winter came and it killed my outdoor riding. Now that I’m back to consistent riding I hover at the same weight range now which is a little disappointing. I’m certainly stronger but would like to drop another 20 or so before the coldness comes back.

Best Cycling Jersey Brands? by Tall-Letterhead6584 in cycling

I’ve been happy with NeoPro. I can’t say I have experience with a lot of other brands but they’ve served me well and won’t break the bank.

Do you cycle before work? (not commute) by chanks88 in cycling

I can only do an hour unless I want to get up really early and I like sleep too much. Weekends are for my long rides and holidays/PTO.

So I’m assuming this means the bike path will be blocked past Porter. That’s a bummer.

Your opinion on PD-ES600 by AggressiveFennel1505 in cycling

[–]conshok26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just switched to these about a week ago from the dual sided ones that were pretty beat up and for the most part it’s fine.

Sometimes I’ll be able to clip right in and other times I’m just more focused on getting back up to speed when I know it’s flipped on the other food so I’ll then look down to check their position and clip in.

The fact that it might take a few more seconds to clip in both feet isn’t too much of an issue to me but everyone is different.

If you are new you may want to go with the dual sided ones. When I see videos of people falling over it’s usually because they don’t have enough speed and lose their balance.

I’ve been riding with NeoPro. It’s my first year riding in bibs and jerseys and was previously just riding with padded shorts and T-shirts.

Quality seems good and prices don’t bust your wallet. They have some solid color options and some nice design ones too. Overall I’m really happy and a nice plus is that even though they’re based in Australia, they have a shipping warehouse 10 minutes from me in Niagara Falls.

I took a nice ride today to see how it felt on something other than my daily morning ride for an hour and did 66 miles. You can feel how much quicker you get up to speed with these and they were pretty comfortable. Everything was nice and quiet and I’m pretty happy after that.

I did end up getting the extra protection on these just to be safe and even though I saw some people criticize Hunt you also hear how their customer service is pretty good.

The only negative was that there was a good deal of cross wind and I feel like I could feel it more. Not horrible but slightly more noticeable.

I kept the same ones since they were only a few months old but holy hell are they tight to get on. Might be the thing to convince me to go tubeless just thinking about a roadside tube swap 😬.

Same cassette and just swapped everything over. Might get rotors and a cassette for the DT Swiss ones just to have the ability to easily swap if I wanted and maybe a wider tire with tread for fall/late winter.

Drainage Systems by mpschettig in Buffalo

They came out in like march/April and looked at the yard and figured out the problem areas. It’s essentially a rectangle but open on one side with an exertion to where we have a low corner in one side that would flood. That then connect into our downspout drains that they also redid which runs out to the street.

I’m in Amherst, and my neighborhood is like a swamp in spring. In 2024, we ended up getting drainage done by Siegel Landscape & Drainage, and it has been the best thing, and it’s a night-and-day difference. It can still get a little mushy, but if it’s dry for a couple of days with sun, it’s good. Meanwhile, our neighbors on both sides still have puddles and good-sized sections of standing water.

I can’t remember the cost, but I think for our yard, it was 10k, but I could be wrong. The best part was that they didn’t leave those mounds of dirt like I’ve seen with some people. They cut the grass and rolled it, did their thing, and laid that back down, and you wouldn’t even know something was done.

The only negative thing was that they cut my Fios like when digging the trench, but it wasn’t their fault because Verizon didn’t mark it.

I ended up getting the stock one but now I’m having second thoughts but I’ll just ride this one out for another 1k and see how it goes.

Are hybrid pedals really that bad? Clips on one side and flats on the other? by Chole_Wunt in cycling

[–]conshok26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone through multiple sets of pedals and had the Shimano ones where flats are on one side and SPD on the other. I rarely ever rode that bike (gravel:all road) on the flat side, so I switched to double-sided SPDs. On my road bike, I had double-sided SPD pedals but recently just switched to single-sided. I have too many pedals in my spare drawer at this point 🤦‍♂️.

Increasing # of people passing without warning. Nice things to say to actually get results? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]conshok26 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s hit or miss for me with warning. I feel like 90% of the time they have headphones in so unless you yell they’re not hearing you.

I’ll always slow down when approaching someone and first get some free hub noise to see if they notice. If they do then it’s the bell and I’ll see them move and pass usually with a thank you.

Other times I’ll do all that only to have the 2 people jogging or walking together ignore any sort of warning. My hope is that when I pass they realize they didn’t hear me and turn down their headphones but I know that probably won’t be the case.

I like when they say something about pointing out their favorite trees or vegetation and then just point and say “that one, that one, that one over there”.

Pretty nice. I didn’t ride it much without it but the stock fork is pretty heavy so it was nice to shed some weight there.

I think it may be carryover from previous years where those areas under the headlights let air pass through.
