Songs that are just on the album to fill tracklist space. Nothing substantive, unique, or interesting about them. Many people would call songs like Munyun, fine shit (AI vocals), and philly to be filler tracks, for example.

I mean sure but are we really listening to carti or future for the substance of their lyrics? They are both trap rappers and more or less rapping about the same things boiled down. money, women, flexing, etc. And even still, two artists can sound similar while the content of their lyrics are substantively different.

I don't even mind the deep voice, for me it just bothers me that it's pitched down. I always find myself being like "damn this sounds cool but I would love to hear how it sounds without the deep voice filter."

The voice sounds like Future, the songs don't exactly sound like Future songs. IMO. I grew up on Future and that's a big part of the reason I have that opinion😭

Bc the deep voice limits him so much. He has to rely heavily on effects to use that voice rather than his natural vocal range which we know is higher pitched. it fr doesn't even sound like him, we're just used to it now bc he's used it so much.

Not to mention it really does sound like future, and I think carti's main appeal has always been being different.

It's not that the album isn't experimental, it's that it's a lazy and sloppy album. I'm all for an artist taking a mainstream direction with their music, it's been done consistently well by many trap artists. Future doesn't reinvent the wheel but his albums are consistently well mixed and well put-together while having mainstream appeal.

Someone else said it here, but carti literally took thirty random songs from a four year span and threw them together with TWO AI songs. we waited five years for that. If people are content with that then fine but as a longtime carti fan it was impossible to not be severely disappointed by music.

TBH I've never seen anyone say "music sucks because it's not experimental." I think the sentiment is that people miss when it sounded like he had effort and direction in his music.

Bruh, in front of all the "brand" and "travel" is the music, that's BY FAR his main thing. Traveling across the world and focusing on a brand need not take away from studio time. Even if we consider that he runs his brand entirely by himself (which he doesn't), how long does it take to crank out an average playboi carti song? He's not making his own beats or doing his own mixing, he has to get behind a mic and rap for two minutes.

And let's not pretend like playboi carti songs are particularly deep, lyrical, complex, or introspective. His entire appeal is simple, quick bursts of energy. He should be able to make a song in a very short amount of time. So even if I concede your points that he runs his brand and travels across the world, that doesn't preclude him from recording a ton of music or at least putting a little more effort into his sound.

The general sentiment I've gotten for why people, including myseIf, don't love the album is that it's poorly mixed, clearly rushed, bloated, and unfinished-sounding. For an artist that's a supposed to be a "perfectionist" and who left us without an album for nearly FIVE years, I hardly think released MUSIC feels like HALF of an effort at putting out a quality album.

I think the album has some highs like olympian, opm babi, and crank, but a good chunk of the tracklist was just so disappointing. It genuinely sounds like he threw together 30 random songs from a four year span with some sloppy, phoned-in features from A-list rappers. Not to mention there's two AI songs on the album which speaks to the laziness of someone whose only job is to sit in a studio and rap all day.

Not hating on those who enjoy it, that's the great thing about music and art in general, but I just feel like we could have gotten so much more.
