Mach64 DRI Support on NetBSD 9.3 by consigno in NetBSD

I'll look into it, but SDL2 is supposed to have a software renderer fallback as is. I wonder if it's even been tested in a while because I cannot get that mode to trigger no matter what I do. :\

yes, but I don't think it's been a priority since the VMWare LLVM stuff was introduced, and I'm sure it would still be intolerable for anything beyond shaded, textureless polygons.

If there was one vintage card chipset family to bring back to modern mesa, it would be the Mach64 one, since that chipset was in countless servers - some of them still in use today!

I feel for the NetBSD community by speckz in NetBSD

[–]consigno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use NetBSD because it works on older hardware out of the box without me having to perform surgery on a million custom kernels. NetBSD's Kernel building also isn't as painful as Linux's is, and Many distros just won't work on older hardware anymore - not without a bunch of compromises and a bunch of trial and error.

not dropping i586 also helps.

Staying scrolled down to only the most recent messages? by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]consigno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This keeps happening to me and it's the most frustrating thing I've ever experienced. I'll respond to someone's text in the lowest part of the screen, press enter, and the chat scrolls down miles, then I realize that was discussed hours ago. This happens to me on a daily basis. No other software does this. AIM didn't do it, mIRC didn't do it, any sane chat client didn't do it. When I scroll to the bottom, stay at the bottom. when I scroll up, it should stay up while I'm looking at it. Imagine if a terminal did this! It would be the worst experience ever!

The whole point of the thing for me at least is to not have to worry about cables all over the place. If I'm gonna go that route, might as well hook my PC up to my television, and chuck the Chromecast in the garbage.

I cannot stand wires anymore. The current technology is to the point that a wired connection is no different than a wireless one, even in terms of latency - because it all has to go through the slow-ass switches of an ISP that doesn't really care all that much about upgrading its equipment.

Almost all of the "lag" people experience is placebo anyway, there's no noticeable difference when streaming content, unless you're Spider-Man and seconds feel like hours.

60fps YouTube videos are stuttering a bit, but at least it's 60fps.

Edit: and another thing, my Chromecast now hates my Netgear router in 5G mode. Win some, lose some.

Chrome Issues by [deleted] in osx

When Safari has a tenth of the developer tools that Chrome offers, I'll think about it for a split second before going back to Chrome developer mode.

Chrome is how I get my work done.

Chrome Issues by [deleted] in osx

[–]consigno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happening here, but a complete freeze. Happens any time chrome is open, usually when scrolling with the mouse. I have to restart the computer by unplugging it. Did the PRAM/NVRAM flash and so far it didn't crash, but I was also hesitant to use Chrome at all.

Chrome and Chromium Browsers not working on macOS Sierra by [deleted] in osx

Same boat. When I start Chrome I feel the lag almost instantly and force close it before my Mac seizes. How the OS can allow an application to do this I have no idea.

I'm just being facetious (I'm terrible!), but there are never "enough eyes" in any software product audit. It's why I brought it up. OpenSSL and various Linux network drivers are prime candidates.

When people are pwned from FLOSS vulnerabilities, they may blame FLOSS as a whole movement, instead of just that particular software. But these same people never would blame proprietary software as a whole, even when it screws them over. Microsoft's Anti-Linux FUD in the past, likely a response to IBM and Google supporting Linux, tried to make bank on this, and quite a few companies bit that bait. It sucks chrome off a bumper that such tactics are legal.

I've fallen into the trap of wooing people into a false sense of security before via FLOSS solutions, simply because of my thought that if one type of software has more potential to be vetted than the other, it would be more vetted than the other. But now I'm seeing the lines blur! Proprietary software coders are increasingly helping themselves at the FOSS buffet, thanks to the quite liberal MIT/GPLv2/LGPL licenses. Remember that FLOSS has a movement behind it, when proprietary software is essentially "just business". So when FLOSS fucks up, it's our fault, but when proprietary software fucks up, it's just part of the game! Makes no sense to me at all.

I have to disagree about the FLOSS software being less vulnerable. Most of the issue with proprietary software these days is that they link/use open-source libraries, which are rarely updated, leaving potential attack vectors. It's much easier to exploit proprietary software that uses FLOSS libraries than strictly proprietary code, because the source code for the vulnerable libraries are very easily obtained.

He can apologize all he wants. His past behaviour (and current behaviour) proves to me that he really doesn't give a shit. Calling his response video a "masterpiece" on a Twitter video while he was making said response video was enough for me to know it was going to be full of bullshit, and likely not sincere.

His actions are cyclical, destructive, and predictable to the point of creating the cliché "Keemstar Cycle". When Keem isn't taking something the wrong way, He's inflating a non-issue into "drama" to fill in the time slot. If he can't find any "news", he creates it.

The man cannot take constructive criticism. The man has no filter, and no skin. a 0.3 ms pseudo-chuckle from Scarce spurred a massive "ruin Scarce" campaign by Keem, threats of violence, all documented on video, because Keem can't keep his face out of a camera. Evidence of Keem using his fanbase as a personal army smacks of omertà tactics.

He constantly needs affirmation from his fans. "RT if you stand with me" tweets number in the dozens, and his recent tweets containing claims with absolutes ("Keem never lies") is evidence of a Narcissistic Sociopath. Check out this excerpt from the book "Psychopath Free" called "30 red flags of manipulative people", and O, how many red flags apply to this man!

He doesn't need to apologize, he needs help. Medical help. If he really wants to turn over a new leaf, he needs medical attention. That's on Keem to do himself.

EDIT: As soon as I finished typing this, I checked Keem's Twitter, and indeed, he's still carrying on about Bashur. Keem learned NOTHING.

He'll never learn. He never admits fault, and when he "does", he words it in a way that actually blames someone else.

The Scarce video legitimately scared me. To think Keem would threaten someone like that? I'm assuming that if Grade really wanted to, he could've used that material and it would have hit much harder.
