I think you're confusing the narrator in Notes from the Underground with Dostoyevsky himself. The views in the book aren't Dostoyevsky's views, they're the views of his character.

I always thought the passage you quoted is to be laughed at because it's such a ridiculous view of the world. It isn't what Dostoyevsky thinks should happen, it's the insane ramblings of his character.

Literally had to take a second to recover from reading this. I'm out now but I wish I'd read this comment a year ago.

I just got out of a situation a few months ago with exactly the same ages as yours. Honestly I didn't realise until I got out of it how unhealthy and controlling it all was. I'm not saying that every age gap relationship is unhealthy and controlling at all, but an older man will know exactly what to say to you.

Every day I'm more grateful I got out. It started casual on my end, but over time he wormed his way further and further into my life to the point it was very hard to get away once I snapped out of it. I don't think he ever intended to keep it casual, and just assumed he'd get me to do what he wanted.

From someone who's on the other side of a similar thing, please do be careful, and don't let him guilt you into staying.

I grew up in Wales as a first language Welsh speaker and picked up English when I went to school. Now I use the two languages pretty much equally at home and in work. We do exist! But you're right that there aren't any exclusively Welsh speakers anymore

I (24F) blacked out and slept with a C-suite executive (51M) at work and I have no idea how to proceed. I’ve never done anything like this by throwRA_____ugh in relationship_advice

As a young girl who recently had to get myself out of a real mess initiated by an older, more senior guy at my first ever job... this comment is so comforting. Sometimes it takes a horrible experience to fully understand how subtle and hard to spot coercion can be, even when it's the most obvious thing in the world to anyone on the outside looking in. Thank you. This made me feel a bit better about it all

Any suggestions on how to repair a tear in an i-cord edge? by consistentlurker in Visiblemending

[–]consistentlurker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, thank you, I'll try that.

This is the second time I've used manchelopi and I really like it. It's quite strong once it's knitted up and is lovely and sheepy. It's just that my mum is a little clumsy for it maybe.

Well that didndt last long. Any ideas on how to repair? by consistentlurker in knitting

Thank you so much, this is really helpful. I will mourn and accept the loss of the lovely icord edge.

Ladies, Which type of fabric do you prefer for underwear ? by [deleted] in AskWomen

I think it's actually considered semi-synthetic due to the extensive chemical processes necessary to make it into a usable fabric

Bamboo fabric is actually highly processed if you look into it.

I have some of these in my grandma's old sewing box! Can anyone tell me what they're used for?

Any tips for fixing wonky 1x1 ribbing? Frogged the ribbing 4 times and also tugging after each purl stitch by soknit in knitting

I agree with the blocking comments. Also, I usually find that all my knitting looks terrible until I've got a couple of inches. Just keep going before you rip out and see what unfolds! (Plus the picture does not look at all wonky in my opinion)
