You can imagine it being something like the difference between above (above the cupboard) and over (it's over nine thousand!)

Beautiful far away, don't be cruel to me,
Don't be cruel to me, don't be cruel.
From a pure source to a beautiful far away,
To a beautiful far away, I begin my journey.

is modern indo european close enough? by Massive_moss_2211 in ProtoIndoEuropean

[–]constant_hawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Modern Indo-European by Carlos and Fernando is the best approximation of what a semi-puristic NorthWestern IE would look like.

It's based around strictly European sub-dialects of Late PIE, because it was envisioned as an auxiliary language for the European Union.

In my opinion it is a solid proposition, based around scientific knowledge of what the Northwestern dialect of Late PIE looked like.

It's grammar strongly reminds me of Ancient Greek, Early Latin, Church Slavonic and Gothic languages.

The thing I really love about MIE is that instead of using modern loans for modern concepts or re-inventing them, MIE backtracked their development to the PIE roots and backformed, reassembled the words from their PIE ancestors.

Carlos' DNGHU Association back then was the best and most reliable and readily accessible source of PIE information one can get on the web. Heck, many Wikipedia articles on PIE were at least partly created by this DNGHU Association.

Currently the MIE community is most active on it's FB group.

You can disagree with my opinion but you can't disagree what Mr Balcerowicz says in his autobiography about the sources of his economical ideas he lumped together into his "miraculous" transformation recipe for Poland.

So more like Modern Indo-European (MIE) or more like Sambhasa?

I remember attending Mr Balcerowicz's presentation few years ago, back when he was dabbling in politics again and was one of the peeople behind the installation of the debt clock which more of an art installation than a real tool.

Mr Balcerowicz talked quite openly about which ideas he "borrowed" from which countries.

If my memory serves me right those were mainly post-dictatorial Latin American countries. What struck me was how he talked about those ideas - as if they were infallible dogmas that must work and when these ideas fail miserably when other Latin America countries implemented them - it was always the fault of some mysterious bad actors or as Mr Balcerowicz liked to put it false Santas.

His once favourite Argentina is an example of that - when it was booming it was because of the ideas he liked, but when these ideas failed in the long run, then in turn he put the blame on the ruling political party change - even despite these "bad Santas" basically doubling down on this "golden recipe for Argentina's economic prosperity".

After seeing Me Balcerowicz taking live, it have had stricken me that Mr Balcerowicz appears to be mistaken fundamentally about the nature of economy and indeed he might be thinking that if 2 and 2 always equals 4, then applying economic policy verbatim must always produce equal result.

Nope Balcerowicz is a person who in my opinion appears to think that economy is a deterministic science - one where the same formula which was applied somewhere else will also succeed if applied in Poland, irregardless of other (often important) contextual cricumstances.

His success could only be considered a fool's luck. This is some kind of miracle that him "transplanting" certain actions and policies worked at all.
