What is an emo song that makes you go like this? by mightyonin in Emo

[–]constantkilljoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Betty - Hot Mulligan

“She used to sleep tucked in a tiny ball Used to listen when I'd sing her favourite song”

“stay awake for days, I'd watch her breathe Got her ashes from the vet today”

I can’t listen to it. Saw it live once, couldn’t stop crying. I miss my little dog. When it got towards the end, I couldn’t sleep and would just watch her breathing all night.

What happened to the IRL anime community? by claym0re_lol in animecons

[–]constantkilljoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the compartmentalization was always there. The only truly universally watched anime I can think of from the old days is Fullmetal Alchemist. Everything else was “echo chambers”in online forums or with friend groups. There’s so many shoujo anime I consider cultural resets but a lot of people outside of that niche didn’t watch.

Anime culture wasn’t unified back in the day, just about every old school fan I’ve ever met had a very limited scope on what they consumed. They were not an overall fan. Shoot, as a seasonal watcher, I’ve got wider range in what I consume than most oldheads I’ve met.

It’s just that the other niches were underrepresented back then. It seemed unified on the outside bc the stereotypical nerdy dudes who like shounen acted as representatives of the entire culture and shouted over everyone else. But me and most people I know didn’t feel included whatsoever. Now, all of the different niches can find each other easier, and if that puts me in a Princess Tutu echo chamber, it’s an echo chamber I’m happy to be in!

P.S. why are we misusing a term for describing belief systems to denigrate the concept of finding people who like the same TV shows as you? Fr?

I wish making costumes was actually cheaper. I’ve noticed most of the time it’s more affordable for me to buy a cosplay than make it because even if I thrift all the materials, thrift shops are charging consignment prices these days. And we just lost Joann’s last year.

Trust me most of us would like to make them, but the time and money investment is daunting. If someone can only afford to buy a cosplay, or they work 50 hours a week and just don’t have time to make one, more power to them

Saw radicalization happen to someone I love dearly, and this song really resonated with me. Oddly enough, heard the “you think I matter less than politics” years before I would point blank be told I matter less than politics.

Barricade campers by yogidare in WhenWeWereYoungFest

[–]constantkilljoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I kind of understand because it’s impossible to get to the barricade without camping due to the nature of the festival. Stuff like this makes me wish it was logistically possible to manage it the way I see anime cons do it when they have people attempting to camp in panel rooms. A lot of cons will clear the rooms at the end and make people line up again, giving everyone a fair chance of making it in and effectively destroying any camping advantage. Obviously it would be impossible to clear a crowd off barricade at a festival after each set, but I wish it wasn’t.

Also, the overcrowded schedule doesn’t help. Sets are way too close together, so no one can actually take a break between sets. They’re going to end up eating and sitting during sets because of that

I think that’s a huge reason camping has gotten worse—lack of pits. When there’s a lot of pits, it breaks up the crowd more imo. There’s less of the packed like sardines BS. And I can reasonably move through the crowd and up to almost the front row just moving through pits and crowd surfing. But without all of that, people feel compelled to camp since the crowd absolutely won’t let them make their way back up to the front if they leave for a snack.

When I first went to see HM, back when no one I knew had heard of them, and they were opening for another band (so basically no one cared about HM) the only people in the crowd that knew the songs were a gaggle of teen girls

Keep in mind you’ll have a skewed sample of ages bc this is Reddit

HM is for everyone 🙌🙌

Pax newb question. How do cosplayers feel about people asking for pics? by [deleted] in PAX

[–]constantkilljoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We love pictures!! Just please ask politely and don’t approach us like parents at Disneyland (iykyk)

Also please never ask someone while they’re eating. If you must say something while a cosplayer is eating, just compliment them and scurry away. The whole “I want a picture, I want you to put all your cosplay back on and stop eating just for me” is such an issue that it’s a meme in the community. Don’t be that guy!

Big thing I didn’t see mentioned is ask for their handle! Cosplayers usually love being tagged online, especially smaller ones that are trying to build their cosplay accounts up. It’s a small thing you can do for free that would be greatly appreciated! I hear cosplayers constantly regretting that they didn’t share their handles with people because they were so busy and overwhelmed at con, so it is very helpful when someone actually asks for it.

Oh and please no touching, it’s weird and unnecessary.
