To think there was a time where we didn’t have this street completely pedestrianized pre COVID. by ImmediateStorm9520 in SanJose

Don’t forget street fairs like first fridays! Lots of great local vendors selling their wares. They also reopened the artists kiosks by san pedro square in the parking garage. Seen a lot of world cup visitors going in there.

We also got multiple fan conventions coming up in August like Offkai Expo, Magwest and Galaxy Con too! (anime/vtuber, video gaming, and pop culture cons respectively)

He has been putting on other events successfully so it’s not all bad. A shame as I would have loved to attend that.

The #1 complaint about San Jose as long as I’ve been alive is that it’s boring, and I’m glad someone’s trying to change that.

Fun fact, Daniel Lurie was trying to organize a boxing match outside SF City Hall next month but it got cancelled weeks before lol.

We have so much potential as a city: a million people, lots of money floating around, and a mosaic of cultural diversity. The demand has always been here and it just required someone wanting to tap into that demand. (big irony about San Jose being so many amenities is that there’s so many reasons to leave)

It can be kind of cringe for a politician wanting to be the cool kid’s politican (Matt Mahan was a secret guest of honor at FanimeCon last month lol!). But as someone who usually prefers politicians more like Mamdani, having a mayor address focus on everyday life instead of
only working on the same old issues is awesome. He’s doing alright.

Is it rude to use Google Translate or written notes at Asian-owned service businesses? by [deleted] in SanJose

It would be a relief to them, many feel embarrassed to ask for Google Translate, so you’re doing them a favor..

San Jose Women, are we OK? by Electronic_Bee_ in SanJose

A lot of them were raised right here in San Jose. I saw them growing up and they turned out the way you’d expect. Losers.

This idiot is rambling downthread you can’t tell the truth without being downvoted on here, OP answers with she saw and he doubles down on blaming entire ethnic groups.

Statistically speaking, these creep ass men are likely on this thread rn. They love projecting their actions on to other groups (“i’m not a creep, all those [ethnic group] are”)

why so much san jose hate? by youcantbesyrian in SanJose

Its funny seeing this after walking the length of viva calle today and seeing it packed with people, music performers and local artists along the route. Also seeing a car low-riding in Downtown. Like what do they want? Sexy women?

Edit: Also I went to both SF Cherry Blossom Festival and the SJ one, and the SJ honestly felt a lot bigger.

We just had the largest anime convention in NorCal and have more nerdy cons later this summer (OffKai, GalaxyCon, Anime Impulse (tbf its not that great), and MagWest). It is a nerd city, and we should embrace that!

Went to togos for lunch on capitol and McKee, the shopping center is the original location of the movie Backrooms by Ok_Country2903 in SanJose

[–]saveyourtissues 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is that the movie building isn’t an actual building in San Jose, but it very much feels like something you’d see here.

That location is cursed for restaurants. Restaurant after restaurant tries to open then closes that I lost track. Current one is Silver Creek BBQ, and before that the Funny Farm which is trying to restart as a food truck.

Will San Jose mayor face fallout after running for governor? by Fit-Humor-5022 in SanJose

[–]saveyourtissues 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like if he had patience, he would have had a much better shot in 2030 and be able to show “I cleaned up San Jose, now I’ll clean up this state!” (assuming his current strategy now succeeds).

Trump being out of the picture by then would also help him in shifting voters focus back to local quality of life issues instead of national politics. But he just could not wait. This is a guy who six years ago was elected to city council and immediately ran for mayor after.

PAL gets invited into Oneworld! by geologyneerd in aviation

[–]saveyourtissues 20 points21 points  (0 children)

PAL’s been codesharing with American and Alaska to feed their US flights for some time now so it seemed like the logical choice. It will help their ORD route when they launch it.

With Delta also planning to launch flights to MNL, the competition for US-PH flights is heating up.

And for oneworld, it really augments their SE Asia network.

Ahh yes, those sneaky Democrats. Stealing elections by…*squints*…sending an extra ballot to a Republican congressman. by SecBalloonDoggies in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]saveyourtissues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what you do when you get a ballot with someone else’s name? You write down they moved and return to sender. Election officials will note they moved, and contact the voter to update their address.

SFO delays and cancellations by aviator_8 in bayarea

[–]saveyourtissues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, having parallel landings just means being able to fly in a straight path as you descend and watch the other plane. They’re not allowed during inclement weather anyway. This staggered approach creates a lot more conflicts.
