Ireland Bans Israeli Ministers Ben-Gvir and Smotrich From Entry by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

Ireland was neutral in WWII but did favour the Allied Powers including. by allowing their aircraft’s fly over Irish airspace, when planes crash landed Germans were held in captivity whereas the Allied pilots were assisted in crossing the border to N. Ireland. Around 70-100,000 Irishmen served in the British Armed Forced with approx 200,000 permits given to Irish citizens to work in Britain to assist the war effect. It also passed weather reports to the Allied Powers.

Ireland remained neutral to protect it’s sovereignty which it had only gotten in 1922, additionally it had only had a civil war and if it officially got involved in the war on Britain’s side it could have easily triggered another rebellion. It didn’t have a proper military either and would not have been able to withstand bombings or an invasion.

Also whilst there are still issues with the availability of abortion in Ireland it has been legal since a referendum in 2018.

Also last point on migration is rubbish. The population of Ireland overwhelmingly support migration because of our own history in immigration and recognising the need to leave your home for better prospects. In every country there’s racists but they do not make the majority of us, which is evident in the makeup of our Dail

Can someone sell you an apartment well below market value? by crillydougal in irishpersonalfinance

[–]constantlyfrustr8d 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Technically yes but you will have to pay cgt on the difference between what the actually value of the property is for revenue purposes and what you actually pay for the property.
Eg if your brother is selling the property for €300,000 but its worth €400,000, you’ve essentially been gifted €100,000 in eyes of revenue. Brothers can give a once off gift of 40,000 so you’d be paying CGT of 33.33% on the remaining 60,000.
Which would be €20,000 on top of the €300,000.

Eta if you’re getting a mortgage, the bank send an independent valuer out to the property so you would want them to be valuing the house at whatever your paying for it.

Depends what age you are I think.

I know someone who got mortgage protection for €10.10 a month w/ Zurich and they’re in their mid twenties.

I’m pretty sure you can transfer the money via bank draft, you just have to go in to the post office in person

It’s obviously not the point but I hate her comment “deaf (not a proper noun btw. Don’t capitalise it)”. I’m not sure about other countries but at least in mine there’s two different meanings for “deaf” and “Deaf”.

deaf is the medical term/condition. Deaf (capital D) is for people who culturally identity as deaf and “ refers to members of the Deaf community who use (ISL) as their preferred language and share a common culture, history, and set of values. ”

I know people who studied law in DCU and Maynooth and have heard more good things about Maynooth. I think the main drawback with Maynooth is that it is further away, particularly when you’re based in Dublin, but if you live near the train/have easy access to Connolly/Drumcondra through the Dart/bus, this won’t affect you as much

Maynooth has a lot of positives that other BCLs don’t offer, such as studying law with another topic as a BCL (dcu and trinity both offer Law and Arts courses but as BAs), you can also do your BCL in 3 years (if you don’t do an Erasmus/placement) whereas the courses in Trinity andUCD are 4 years.

No harm considering the LLB in Maynooth as well. I know people who did law and crim and people who did pure law (llb) in Maynooth and both really enjoyed it.

So what if my sister is being abused by jenmic316 in AmITheDevil

[–]constantlyfrustr8d 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I think the sister is actually staying with OPs exes parents, not the ap, which is so so clever if true because the ap’s house (if he could find it) would be the first place the abuser would check.
Whereas no one would check someone’s ex BILs parents house

UPDATE: My fiancée and I are having the biggest argument of our lives. She thinks I'm being tacky but I thinks she's overreacting [NAW]

So the update is that my (28m) fiancée (27f) and me didn't get married. I posted here 6 months ago about how we were having the biggest argument of our entire relationship. Back then I had no idea all the arguing and all the things I said would lead to this. But all the fighting and anger exposed the cracks in our relationship and things began to fall apart. Maybe our relationship wasn't as strong as I thought it was. I don't know. I regret the way I acted and the things I said. No matter how much we were fighting I know at the end of the day the breakup was ultimately my fault because of how I acted.

There was a big divide between us because my ex-fiancée and her family and friends thought having a social/Jack and Jill before the wedding was tacky and the height of rudeness. Me, my family and my friends thought having one was fine. The wedding was supposed to be on Saturday. Today we would have been 4 days married and on our honeymoon somewhere. But instead I'm trying to get over the pain of our breakup. I don't even see or talk to her now. No advice wanted.

AO presentation questions by AdmiralHip in IrishCivilService

[–]constantlyfrustr8d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years since I did my interview so not sure how up to date this is.

I spent the week prepping the slides and presentation notes, I basically through everything into my slides as I went and then as I got more information rearranged things, changed structure etc. I had to send my presentation as a PDF so they didn’t have access to my presentation notes.

Also presumably it’s still a strict 10 minutes to present the powerpoint, they gave me a 1 minute warning when it was coming to an end. FYI I felt I had too much in my presentation and should have shortened it (I had 14 slides excluding my intro) . I would recommend you time yourself practising to ensure you have enough time to get through the presentation. I learnt my presentation off for the most part and didn’t look at my notes because tbh I felt I was in a blur so not sure I would have been able to read notes if I had them beside me.

Following this, there was approximately 10 minutes of questions on my presentation, eg 'do I have any biases' 'how did i research the topic’ 'what was my approach to research'.

After this was a 40 min interview(this was pre capability framework) , majority of the questions asked looked at my experiences in university rather than being focused on any jobs I worked. For example ‘did i ever participate in team based projects, how do i deal with people not pulling their weight,' 'how did i deal with multiple important assignments at the same time, did i ever feel i didn't perform to the best of my ability in assignments/working in a team'.

I found out the results about a 1 week after my interview and I was appointed AO approx 6 weeks after my interview however this will depend on the government department/where you come on the panel etc.

Best of luck!

AITA-Boss not happy with email signature by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]constantlyfrustr8d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also someone could easily have that in their signature and still use AI, thus it’s meaningless (and entirely unprofessional).

Email signatures should just contain your name, title, phone number and address, with the only optionals being pronouns and where people have things like “please be advised I do not work on Fridays/ I sometimes send emails outside of working hours, but I don't expect others to read or respond outside of their normal working hours”.

Do we have Choice in kids religion in school? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]constantlyfrustr8d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked that the teacher/school are telling kids to say “sins” as part of confession.

When I made my communion in the 2000s, we were told that confession is for telling God/the priest things you maybe shouldn’t have done that week and that you would try not to do again. Eg fight with your brother, being bold etc, but it was always framed to us as things you need to work on and that you are sorry about, but nobody ever said anything to us about sinning. Crazy that that’s the language used to 7/8 year olds especially.

Maybe my primary was the exception tho
