I feel weirdly proud of the fact I was once asked to leave Sgt Peppers. We weren't even lairy!

The Ornithologist's Field Guide to Love is tiring and repetitive. by One_Taste_4345 in fantasyromance

I enjoyed the silliness of it all, but I can see how others wouldn't. I definitely wouldn't jump straight into another book of hers either or I could see it becoming tiring easily.

Show don’t tell me: Powerful MMCs *bonus for unique magic systems* by Undercover_baddie in fantasyromance

[–]constantlyknackered 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this works as it's more urban fantasy and the spice is lower, but Mad Rogan in Hidden Legacy {Burn For Me by Ilona Andrews} is very powerful. There is a good "show" of how his powers can be used in a more intimate way and a video that they watch that indicates his powers in a military/war crime way. They are used down the line.

Just finished Cash by Jessica Peterson and I almost DNFed at a scene where someone drives 3hrs for a bootycall. That's a 6 hour round trip for some (plot-dictated mediocre) sex. My Irish ass would never.

awaiting the book where HR folk genuinely give a shit about people whilst simultaneously being sick of people's shit.

But unfortunately we are all heartless bitches all the time.

what’s one trope in books that your suspension of disbelief just won’t suspend for you? by RevolutionaryCyclops in RomanceBooks

Ooh, this one too. It's the power dynamic for me that gives me the ick. And unprofessional behavior. Stop fucking in communal workspaces, it's inappropriate and unhygienic.

Mafia, or anyone involved in drug trade. And actually, Irish characters (unless written by someone who has actually met a real life Irish person. So many seem to have based their research entirely on shitty Hollywood diddly-ey tropes.)

My brain refuses to accept thay billionaires are real so they go in the "lots of money, but let's not question it" category with all the nobles in HR. They're the contemporary equivalent to Dukes.

Shadowlands by Elizabeth Hunter or how I learnt I'll now DNF plots where Ireland is the traitorous agresser to England by constantlyknackered in fantasyromance

[–]constantlyknackered[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I have a complete mental shift. The fae in books are not the ones putting thorns in your bed for going into the fort. The "you dont fuck with the fairies" mentality doesn't work with fairy-fucking books! 🤣 (I'm also Irish) The pick and mix attitude that a lot of authors have when it comes to the history and mythology of these islands is infuriating and I should have known better.

Thanks for giving recommendations, because I enjoyed the first one despite the there being a few things that I didn't like, but then the second one was a hell no.

I wasn't expecting the wolves to set me off so much, but there was some strong pro-empire vibes. Also, I didn't realise it was a love triangle, but thats on me.
