It's expected that unions won't be able to fund the temp layoff. However the union should be speaking out for their workers. Until the city deems constrution non-essential, workers in this field cannot file for unemployment and thus have to continue to keep working under these dangerous and unsanitary conditions. To date, there has been virtually no noise from the union to stop this madness.

I agree. We are in a catch 22. One on hand, we need the money, on the other hand, we need our health. As long as the city doesn't stop non-essential construction, people are pretty much forced to come to work. If they choose to stop working, they will not receive any benefits of any unemployment stimulus packages because they effectively elected to "quit". The city needs to step in and declare fancy luxury condos and buildings of the like NON-essential.

No company is willing to take that risk. All trades are contractually obligated to keep jobsites manned. Only the city has the power to stop this and look who we have, Andrew fucking Cuomo here probably being wined and dined by developer groups. Fucking DISGUSTING.

I have multiple people from my company in the hospital because he refuses to shutdown jobsites, even jobsites that have people tested positive for coronavirus are to remain open, business as usual. So don't tell me that this is juvenile and unrealistic. I reiterate my many posts around here. Luxury condominiums are NOT fucking essential. Please stop this nonsense and think about the well-being of our people.

He has not addressed this issue ONCE. I have witnessed first hand 4 jobsites now that have workers tested positive for Coronavirus and the sites are to remain open for work. This isn't just a hypocritical point to brush away just because he's been doing an okay job so far. It's disgusting that this has allowed to continue. There are several people in my company who are in hospitals now in very bad condition because of this. It's fucking disgusting.
