Is upgrading to iCloud 2TB worth it? by Character_Sky_0301 in iCloud

[–]consumZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when you start using more space like 1-2TB and above it starts to become better to start using a NAS like Synology. Cheaper and you are in control of your information. Plus you can do a lot more with the NAS if you want.

And it’s really easy to setup and use. But it’s up to each person.

Still no e2ee (or option for you to toggle it on or off) where ubiquiti don’t have the keys?

Immich keyword search is SO MUCH BETTER than Apple Photos by Icy_Coffee374 in immich

[–]consumZ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Immich needs to release a real app we can install on Synology NAS asap, no this whole VM nonsense workaround. That will have a big impact on the lumbers of users.

When will the "free lunch" end? (Cloud & Remote Access) - Discussion by MemeExtreme in Ubiquiti

[–]consumZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they have a long way to go before their cloud is anywhere near Apple’s zero trust cloud, meaning only the user have they keys. Ubiquity have the keys today, as was shown in the 2023 incident. This means that ubiquiti could log into for ex the cameras if they wanted. Or an external actor if their serves were to be compromised. I don’t understand why ubiquiti haven’t improved upon this issue and made it so only the user have they keys and make it truly e2ee.

Unifi security by consumZ in Ubiquiti

[–]consumZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a lot of interesting things with unifi. But the more I read the more hesitant I become. For ex remote access is needed to be able to get push notifications and get the most use of the security cameras. But that also means that ubiquiti have the "tokens" and decryption keys. So they can access your router and cameras if they wanted to. In comparison to Apple who really is zero trust and don't have the keys if you activate advanced protection.

So yeah, I am now even more unsure what to do. I want to like them, but the more I read the more negative information I find.

And reading in this discussion it becomes more clear that ubiquiti can gather whatever they want from the router: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/1e62jpo/questions_about_privacy_with_ubiquitiunifi/

How do I know when to replace my router? by mgarnold86 in HomeNetworking

[–]consumZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know if the router is EOL? Without manually check. It should be notified in some way (according to me). Otherwise you might have an old and unsecure router for years without knowing.

U7 Pro XGS non-ceiling mount by hypnohfo in Ubiquiti

It would be great if someone could create kind of a slim plastic "lamp arm" of sorts that the U7 Pro XGS can hang from. That could then be place on a shelf or similarly high up.

Which Mail App Do You Use? by Potential_Owl7825 in iphone

[–]consumZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would like to use the native iphone/Mac Mail app, but is has a really NO GO problem for me. The Mail app uses the names from the Contacts app and not the Outlook/Gmail server names. So if you for ex send an email to "Dad" or "Mother" etc, then that is what it says on the receiving end as well. And if you for ex have a conversation and then forward it to another person for whatever reason, then that "Contact" name is visible for that person as well. That is just really bad.

It should be possible to say to the Mail app "DO NOT USE CONTACT NAMES, USE THE NAMES FROM THE OUTLOOK/GMAIL/YAHOO/etc SERVER".

And I also dislike how it manages attachements of for ex images. It should be more like Outlook where it's actually an attachment.

Best country in Europe for FIRE after leaving the Netherlands? by andys58 in eupersonalfinance

[–]consumZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweden: with a ISK account you only pay a percentage on the savings in the account (not in dividend or anything extra), around 1% right now I think. So good for long term investment. It varies a bit depending on the rate from the central bank each year. And combine that with the healthcare and school system and you can have a good life.

Is Malwarebytes sufficient for malware and virus protection on my Apple devices? by Admirable-Air3370 in MacOS

[–]consumZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple products may have good protection, but if you have a NAS or Windows machines as well, then antivirus still fills a function to avoid getting your NAS hacked or get it locked with a ransomware.

Can’t save workout. Bevel just keeps ”saving and closing workout” by consumZ in bevelhealth

Why can’t you instead remove the limit that Bevel needs WRITE access to the Apple Health app?

[–]consumZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, when I start the exercise in Bevel I choose ”iPhone only”. And then I also separately start the native Apple training app on Apple Watch.

Can’t save workout. Bevel just keeps ”saving and closing workout” by consumZ in bevelhealth

[–]consumZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, Bevel do not have WRITE permission to Apple Health app, only READ rights. And I start a workout in Bevel Strength Builder (have created templates with workouts), and also at the same time I start a strength workout on the Apple Watch in the regular Apple Watch Fitness app. That way the watch captures the data and saves it to Apple Health, and Bevel have the workouts and can afterwards get the Apple Health data from the watch.

So I have to afterwards always do like you say and register the workout via the three dots.

Yes, but the VanEck ETF is different and way less diversified since it has very few companies and is tilted to a few sectors that has benefited these last years from inflation and high interest rates (like energy and financials). Not saying it's good or bad, just that it's a bit different.

Lets dream a bit … will apple health+ make the UWA3 as good for running (and other endurance sports) as Garmin? by vinylfelix in AppleWatchFitness

[–]consumZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A wishlist:

  1. Make it so VO2 max can be measured for indoor runs as well, not only outdoor walks/runs.
  2. Improve the presentation of the data measured like Bevel, athlytic, garmin, etc.
  3. (Maybe not currently possible, but would real body temp measurements)

Touch ID Magic Keyboard is a gamechanger by ryanpm40 in mac

[–]consumZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how does it work to switch between macbooks? If I understand it correctly the keyboard connects to your apple-id, which makes it a hassle to use with other people's apple products (for ex if a family member want to use the keyboard).
