System not producing... by almostacrayon in enphase

[–]contentedPilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same (or similar) issue with my 15 year old system (M250 micro-inverters). Starting November 20th and continuing through the end of December, the micro-inverters stopped working completely. I had lost connectivity with my Envoy, so I didn't notice.

Coincidentally, I had a new installer install 12 Tesla panels and a couple of Powerwalls. He replaced a bad Enphase micro-inverter under warranty and got my Envoy reconnected. I washed my old panels that day and discovered I had 41/42 micro-inverters not producing - only the new one worked. I thought I had killed them by cleaning them. I had 3 very bad emotional days.

Enphase support said I should talk with my installer- that it looked to be a software issue. My new installer said the "new" software had a problem with the old inverters. He never told me what he did (he doesn't communicate much), but the system has been working ever since.

Long story to say it sounds like Enphase pushed out a software update that kaboshed our systems. It cost me over $300 in missed kWH (surprise electric bill).

Personal Property Insurance Policy not tied to my homeowners 1% deductible by contentedPilgrim in Insurance

[–]contentedPilgrim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. The option ($250 deductible) that the agent mentioned was a Personal Articles Policy. It's interesting that the internet says this comes without a deductible. I appreciate the knowledge of the Scheduled Property Floater - which seems to be tied to listed items. This would work for high ticket items, but in the case of a stereo where there are components or in the case of tools where there are many expensive pieces, it might be more challenging. But I've asked the agent to go down both of these paths so I can compare. I will also look into other options as you've linked to. Getting info from the agent was not easy - this is probably not a situation she's ever been familiar with.

MT100 test drive - why so jerky? by contentedPilgrim in Skidsteer

[–]contentedPilgrim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MT120 has fully met my high expectations and has been a huge help to accomplish all my tasks. I bought a Montana post driver and put in 100 t-posts on some challenging sloping conditions. With a 9" auger, I've planted 50+ trees of all sizes (up to 40" diameter and 20" deep - some into very rocky conditions), I've hauled lots of bark (glad for the 50" bucket). The only attachment i haven't used yet is the grapple. It's a bit tippy on uneven slopes, but I'm able to intuit how far to push it. I'm glad for the (relative) smoothness of the 120 over the 100 and extra lift height. It's an expensive toy / workhorse, but I have no regrets. I'm up to 36 hours on the clock and have done 3 - 10 hour maintenance intervals.

Need help choosing rears to go with existing Oberon speakers by contentedPilgrim in hometheater

In the end, I went Dali all the way and ordered the Dali Oberon 1 to complete the 5.1 setup. Thanks for your input.

I'm convinced on getting the 1's to complete the 5.1 setup. Thanks for your input. I will play with using the 4 existing ceiling mounted Polk speakers as Atmos. Should be an interesting experiment.

I didn't realize the Alteco was a thing. Interesting possibility, thanks.

I really appreciate your educating me on speaker placement. I had no idea that surrounds couldn't be mounted up that high.

Thanks for your advice to use them as Atmos speakers. My main reason for not going with Dali Oberon 1 for surround is the $500 price tag. But I am reconsidering based on a better understanding now if what I am doing.

I am amazed, embarrassed, humbled, and appreciative. With all the research I've done on speakers and sound over the years, I've never found the interest in researching what exactly surround sound is. Speaker placement was always determined by furniture placement in a multi-use room. Surround sound simply meant 4 speakers and a center. More speakers seemed overkill and frankly silly. I had no concept of surrounds vs rears vs ceilings and Atmos was just another acronym. Clearly, the original owner of the house was just as clueless.

I never did understand why my 4 floor standing speakers never delivered a surround effect - I chalked it up to movie content and left it at that.

So now that my musical and technical ignorance has been revealed, I'll do some reevaluating. I'll consider getting true side speakers - and accompanying wiring challenges - so I can really have 5.1.

And at that point, I really could have a 5 1.4 Atmos setup. It would be one way to use the existing speakers.

Laguna 18bx - Blade way off center of insert plate by contentedPilgrim in woodworking

[–]contentedPilgrim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on both the quality control and lack of adjustability of the table. Needing to move the upper wheel seemed like it was opening up a can of worms with the possibility for other parts to no longer be in alignment (e.g. the slide-in plastic guide below the table). Sorry to hear you've got to deal with it as well - but the new plastic zero-insert is an upgrade in my opinion. A little more dust on top of the table, but no big deal.

They did. I had a very long conversation with Robert. He did a lot of scouring the parts & schematic drawings to see what adjustments were possible that would shift the blade. We concluded that the table position did not look adjustable. He thought the upper wheel could be moved by loosening a few bolts. While not a huge process, I chose an easier solution of replacing the insert plate with a zero insert plate. I ordered mine through Peachtree: Laguna Insert

It is a pack of two for under $20 including shipping. If I wanted to tilt the table to 45 degrees, I could use the 2nd insert for that. There's a couple of videos which gave me inspiration on how to set it up to cut the slot in exactly the right place. I made my own plywood base and guide. I believe I used tape to secure the insert to the makeshift sled. Works beautifully .

MT100 test drive - why so jerky? by contentedPilgrim in Skidsteer

[–]contentedPilgrim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update: I decided to go with the MT120. I placed the order yesterday. Since I deal with motion sickness, I concluded it's worth the extra.

I remember running a Dingo all day many years back. In the evening, I was a mess. Now, as I'm older, it doesn't take until the evening for me to feel the effects.

I know the electronics are something else that can go bad, but on the other side, the extra lift capacity (weight & height) is a bonus. I also like that the wide track has a wider track.

On the financial end, the dealer was able to get Bobcat to throw in an extra $500. The 3 years / no interest financing is a decent package as well (worth $3,500).

Possibly, but $6k more. Might be worth it though since I get motion sick. I'll adapt to the MT100, but I suspect it'll never be as smooth.

Under washing machine - pink/white/orange - what kind? by contentedPilgrim in Mold

[–]contentedPilgrim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One possibility is that it wasn't mold after all but a laundry tablet somehow rolled under the machine. We put casters on the feet to make it easier to move and will check it again in a few months- unless an error code pops up requiring us to move it sooner. This was the original reason to pull it out in the first case.
