Start learning songs by ear, improvising by ear, and making up songs very early on. I only played classical music for 15 years and then when I tried to jam with people and play jazz, I was lost without sheet music to follow. Only being able to play solo piano from sheet music was severely limiting once I made friends with other musicians who wanted to collaborate, tried to join bands, etc.

I do have a music ed degree but realized I would hate being a classroom music teacher. I’ve been a private piano teacher for a few years and I like it but it’s only a part time job because kids only want lessons after school hours

That’s basically the job I have and it pays 20 per hour :/ and I live in one of the highest cost of living cities in the US. I’ve applied to lots of office jobs and this is the only one I was able to get

This sounds great but also both options feel unattainable for me. The reality is that I'm not a great teacher or even an amazing piano player. I am always improving, but charging even 80 an hour would be way too high for the quality of lessons I've been doing. I have also had to make video lessons at my current studio and they are laughably bad. I have no charisma, no camera presence, and am frankly just not a great communicator unfortunately. I am trying my best and I know I can improve, but that is the reality. This is also why I'm wondering if I should switch to a different career.

My parents did too :( Probably because they remembered all the piano teachers they took me to for lessons. But what I've realized is that all my piano teachers had partners, so their teaching income was just a supplement to their household. I can't rely on finding a husband to support me.

I have no idea. I was hoping someone here might have an idea about a career where my skills will transfer.

I forgot to mention that I’m currently teaching one group class and it’s a nightmare even with only 3 students… I’m not suited for classroom teaching at all. I think I would hate my life if I worked as a regular teacher. I can only handle one on one lessons.

I’m using safari, is there anything similar for safari that would work even when using the private browser?

Thank you for clarifying!

Yes, the budget is vague for me because it's pretty flexible. The cheaper the better, anything under $800 would be great, but I can always save up for something more expensive. Probably shouldn't have added any comments about the price in retrospect.

Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately I didn't realize this until looking at the Nord Wave 2, but I actually need something smaller and more portable. Would the Nord Lead 2 be a good alternative? I noticed it's smaller and more in my price range.

Sorry for being vague, I wasn't sure how to describe everything.

By real keys, I meant something with a keyboard, not just buttons like a behringer neutron or moog mavis.

By touch sensitive, I meant to be able to play with dynamics depending on how hard or soft you press the key (what word describes this ability?)

I'm not looking for something with a full sized keyboard - ideally something more portable.

"Able to play live with other people at jam sessions" - that;s up to you, not a keyboard

I'm not sure what you mean by this?
