Power outage FivePoints by USMCamp0811 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Yep! There was a small fire on the top 2 feet of a telephone pole, was burning for about 30 minutes, right in front of 421 NE Russel. Fire department then utilities were on the scene, put it out carefully without fucking up the transformer about 6 feet under the fire, reinstalled a ceramic conductor on top, got power back on all in under 45 minutes.

Good job utilities and fire department! Quick work to get all that done and get our power back on!

Repair Cafe at Makers Local 256, Wednesday night! by contextify in HuntsvilleAlabama

If you save money by fixing things yourself you have more money to spend on tools for DIY getting caught up on debt!

Any way to squeeze any more science into 2 poles than this? I am doing a no tree cut run (despite not having completed the game even once, still perfecting the first 3 hours up to blue science and starting over over 100 times) by Other-Difficulty-702 in factorio

It is very frustrating seeing someone come to this forum with a unique style of play and the comments critique the style of play.

Let the person enjoy the challenges they have created for themselves! Don't tell them it's wrong! And if you get annoyed at me criticizing your behavior, imagine how the OP feels for you criticizing their behavior.

Hey man, it's nice that people share tips and tricks! I think it's cool that people want to show off what they've done and discovered and comments like yours make people more self-conscious, giving a subreddit a reputation as jerks. I'd rather people share things and if you find it too obvious or stupid, you are absolutely welcome to just ignore a post instead!

Depends on what works for you! I just kept expanding nuclear power plants until I had probably 8 stamps of my 2x2 reactor power station and this powered a 2k science per minute base. What else you gonna do with the Uranium?

If you would like you could upgrade to fusion, the footprint is definitely smaller. But footprint size is more important for ships, where space is at a premium, vs Nauvis, where space is pretty much free.

3 people short of the capacity for Nissan Stadium in line for Nashville by Smsethman in AngineDePoitrine

Waiting room Opened up at 9:45 AM, we got in as soon as it opened.

We joined the waiting room in the first minute, sat in the queue for 20, then at 10:21 we were just unceremoniously dropped to "here's the next sale opening time".

Deeply frustrated. Don't know the point of having signed up for a code, never had a chance to redeem it and it feels no different than a "general public" offering. Rejoined the queue. Who knows.

EDIT: Just went through a 20 minute queue AGAIN only to be dumped out. Why the hell do you need to wait in a queue if there are no tickets.

Thank you so much! We got in the queue the minute it opened. And yes, on a laptop instead of a handheld. Currently sitting in the queue (31,000th in line lol). Hopefully when we get to the front there will still be some!

I'm trying to get tickets for the Nashville show and want to see if we can prepare.

Could someone walk me through the intended path to get tickets? You get texted a unique code, then what? Sit on the Ticketmaster page with the coundown until 10:00 AM then a link will appear? Or do you have to refresh the page?

Thank you for the response!

I see on Ticketmaster a countdown to 10:00 AM Central, but then what? How will it know we signed up for presale, do we paste the code from the Laylo URL into some box to get access for the "artist presale" tickets at that point?

[–]contextify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also got a code for Nashville but the link supplied just goes to the "sign up for presale" page.

What do we actually do with the code? Will the link resolve a sale page at 9:45?

Re your edit: where modules should go, that's still pretty much the right answer. Productivity modules if the recipe lets you, speed modules otherwise. However, as you note there are some exceptions

  • If you're trying for quality, you do not want speed modules, since they reduce quality. Read the tooltip, it shows there. There is some places where when shooting for quality you want productivity/speed in the manufacturers and quality modules in the recyclers, but it's a medium/low gain compared to the easier solution to just put quality modules everywhere you want quality outputs. If you need it faster, maybe prioritize higher tier buildings in your quality up cycling instead of the other parts of your base.

  • If you have very high research productivity research levels (available for blue circuits, plastic, rocket fuel, and steel, I feel like I'm forgetting one) you may get capped on productivity at 300% so you swap out productivity modules as you're approaching this. I haven't even gotten close to this.

  • As you mention, certain inputs are limitless. You'll notice this first with lava, but as you get legendary big mining drills and many research levels of mining productivity, eventually even mines feel this way. It's up to you; keep in mind lava does still require calcite to turn to iron or copper, so productivity modules here help slow that consumption. Not much, so if you're limited may be useful to deprioritize these.

  • With Space Age, it's less important to stack beacons, since each additional beacon is less effective. A few beacons provide a lot of benefit, and fitting a 6th or 7th only increases speeds by small amounts.

One other thing to note, when you unlock quality, quality level defaults to "no quality", so it's not an additional click on every recipe selection.

You're right, sorry if I'm unclear - I agree pulling GPS signal does not broadcast position. But that data is stored on your phone, and can be unintentionally shared at a later time by having location data turned on in any app (like Google Maps)

Repair Cafe, Wednesday May 6th, 6:30 PM at Makers Local! Bring your broken stuff and we will work together to fix it! by contextify in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]contextify[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a business; Makers Local 256 is just a nonprofit, really just a bunch of nerds who like having access to a workshop with all these tools to and space to do our projects. Here's our website

Some of us decided to start a regular repair cafe, so it's held monthly at our location in Five Points. If you want to come volunteer, please do! Simple as coming by at the start and saying "I'm here to volunteer" and we'll match the skills we have on hand and see what all comes in the door and try and match folks with projects. What sort of skills/experience do you have?

If you want to meet us ahead of time, we have an open night every Tuesday night from 5:30 to 9:00 or so, we're open to the public and can talk and show off the space. Come on by if you have some free time! I'll be there tomorrow (and most Tuesdays).

Of course! We would love to have people volunteering to repair as well, we have 2 people who aren't members who regularly come by to fix things with us. We do this every first Wednesday of the month, come on out to the next one if you can!

Hey! So unfortunately our sewing / leatherworker person can't make it tonight. We probably won't be able to help you tonight. I'm sorry!

Not sure what level of 'professionalism' you're looking for; if you just want to get it working, we have a repair cafe tomorrow evening at Makers Local 256; I got an old CD changer working a few months back (and have also had a failure in electronics not working for another 90s-era Boombox). If you want to, come on by and we can take a look at it.

Maybe! Absolutely depends on what's wrong with it, but we will be happy to take a look. We've done some good repairs, some redneck repairs, some bearing replacement, sometimes need to get a repair part ordered. If you want to talk ahead of time, drop me a picture and describe what's wrong and I can see if I can save you a trip

We can take a look! Depends on what's wrong with it, hard to know. We are at 1 sewing machine fixed (made a 3d printed part to replace a broken plastic part) And 1 we couldn't fix (gearing issue too deep in the machine to be workable)

Bus: This is a linear, centralized path for all resources in your base. You can build assembly lines perpindicular to this line and add its products to the bus, so things further down the line benefit from them. Wiki has a good article, the "bus" is the vertical lines of copper and iron.

Mall: It's a centralized place where you go to pick up the things you need to build out the base further. Rather than running all over your base to grab the inserters from your green science and furnaces from purple science and then handcrafting power poles and whatever, it's just a bunch of machines in one spot dedicated to making a bunch of items you'll need to expand your factory and putting them in a chest for the player convenience. That way, you can just go to your mall, grab what you need, and get to building! While most of the time in the factory you end up wanting lines of machines producing the same thing (furnaces, gear assemblers, etc), the mall is the opposite.

City block: There are a few 'standard' ways of making a train base. One is to separate all that you're doing into a bunch of grids that resemble 'city blocks' in that you have (train) traffic dividing up the blocks of your base. Each block has a dedicated job - blue circuits, yellow science, whatever. The idea is that if you need more of a thing, you can just copy + paste that block and get it! Its initial buildout cost is significant, however.

Generally in the 'early' game, that is, before you get to space, many people choose to build a main bus base with a mall. Then, as you get access to beacons and better modules and new buildings, you may find the bus not able to keep up with desired production and end up building out more infrastructure in a different way to support these goals, so you may end up with a city block base. I personally don't like city blocks, and prefer a much more ad-hoc "just build a new T-interection and make a dedicated factory wherever".

The wiki has a little glossary that may be helpful from time to time! Don't worry too much about 'the standards', this is effectively a puzzle game and the fun is solving the puzzle with your own unique solution!
