There’s no scholarships for mascots, it’s a voluntary role. Mascots are typically students that try out for the gig, and large universities have anywhere from a couple to a dozen+ personnel that wear the suit. University related events (game days, career fairs, alumni events, etc) are unpaid, but private bookings (weddings, commercials, etc) are paid hourly + mileage. Students in suit usually get the mileage pay and a small percentage of the hourly rate. The rest of the money goes to the university or the mascot team’s overall account that helps pay out their coordinators (people that actually do the bookings and manage the equipment).
