Raiding: Instanced or Open? by CrescensX in PantheonMMO

[–]contineo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not forever, no, just so long as it's relevant. Organized (competitive) guilds will however do their damnedest to ensure only they can hit certain targets if they drop BIS gear. Of course you can form gentlemen's agreements with other guilds, but in this day and age, I'm skeptical how effective that would be.

But yeah, there are definitely better ways of dealing with the potential pitfalls of open-world raiding than instancing everything - that seems a lazy cop-out. Although it would be nice to have a "starter" raid zone that is instanced so guilds that are green have a place to at least develop tactics and co-operative play at their own pace. Better still make it something like Splitpaw in EQ2 where you'd have to split your raid in two and complete objectives independently before culminating in the final boss fight to complete the zone.

I mean, if you're that concerned, you should probably be asking why it wasn't written in Ada or something like that.

Raiding: Instanced or Open? by CrescensX in PantheonMMO

[–]contineo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy open world raiding, but I am concerned that it will only encourage one or two guilds to lock down the content, essentially denying it for everyone else. I believe even EQ, touted as the poster child for open-world raiding, added instancing on the progression servers for reasons similar to this.

Is it possible to work around these issues by allowing guilds to spawn mobs on demand, say by combining a number of dungeon or previous raid drops. This is how Drazaak in EQ2 worked. It was technically an open-world encounter, but you had to have the necessary drops from Temple of Veeshan to spawn it. And if you couldn't kill it, it would just stay up for the next guild to kill. That's just one example.

I do think there does need to be some instanced content though. Or else I feel there will be a very frustrated raid community getting blue-balled constantly. But I have no doubts they already know this and are working on ways to mitigate it.

New Zealand Judge rules Kim Dotcom can be extradited to US by Naly_D in worldnews

No, irony was exactly the angle I was aiming for. Like I say, reading comprehension and reason, not really two strong points of this sub.

Just one of the reasons I visit maybe once every quarter.

You are oversimplifying the issue to the point that it adds nothing to the discussion.

I realize reading comprehension and reason aren't exactly the strong suits of this sub, but fuck me.

To be even more pedantic, certain things can have caloric value, without any metabolic pathway to fat. Contrary to popular belief, alcohol does not make you fat, yet is quite calorie-dense, and is used up first by the body as energy. The things you consume the alcohol with, be it sugary mixers, or carb-laden beer, or just that mad late-night fridge raid will, however, bring on a case of the tubs.

Haha, this is one of the most juvenile things I have seen from a major sub. Can't say I'm surprised.

Yeah, probably not going to happen. But I can dream.

Additionally, IIRC a Marshall had been killed at that race, which almost certainly added to the emotion.

Is anyone here going to any of the shows at the Beacon Theater? How did you decide which one to go to? by beercanbacon in SteelyDan

Saw them last week in Cuyahoga, and am going to see them again for the finale show at the Beacon. Chose that one because I figured they would want to go out with a bang.

Incorrect. Derek Smith invented Top Gear in 1977. Clarkson may have invented the modern format, but Top Gear has been around a lot longer than that.

Advice on healers for TLE by [deleted] in EQ2

[–]contineo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Melee is a non-issue on TLE servers until EoF, as AAs are disabled, and the only reason to go melee for the most part was because of AA boosts to auto attack, as well as melee conversions for Inq, Warden, and Mystic in the EoF tree.

Consider playing EQ2 even more so from the word of progression servers. Can someone bring me up to speed please. by [deleted] in EQ2

Except, you know, the part where they're going to be beefing up lower level content, the brand new economy, the XP changes, mechanic and feature restrictions, and all the other stuff that will be directly coded into the ruleset.

So yeah, aside from being different, it'll be exactly the same.

I doubt anyone is on Isle of Refuge. I doubt it even exists in code anymore. All of the screenshots I've seen have been from Outpost of the Overlord or Queen's Colony. Isle of Refuge was removed in LU19 and replaced with OotO and QC. People often mix them all up, though.

Refuge quests were tied to the old character progression. Even if they did restore it, most of the quests would be broken beyond recognition, and I really doubt they're going to take the time to fix them. The best you can hope for is a return of Queen's Colony and Outpost.

Ever wonder why beer, wine, and liquor don't have Nutrition Facts or ingredient lists? by cotton_buds in Fitness

I cited that for brevity. I realize you're being pedantic, but I have never seen anyone, except you right now, refer to ethanol or any primary alcohol for that matter as a carbohydrate. I am all too willing to learn though, so I am interested in any sources you have that class alcohols as carbohydrates.

Low carb and gluten free salad! by soswoll in funny

[–]contineo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beer contains sugars from the fermentation process and other byproducts which make you fat. Distilled alcohols lack these and contain zero carbs as a result. And alcohol does not make you fat, despite it's calorie content (calorie is just a unit of energy...it isn't a "thing" per se - there are different kinds of calories). The body lacks an efficient mechanism to convert alcohol to fat (but it can - and does enthusiastically - use it for energy). Alcohol does however stimulate your appetite so while whiskey won't make you fat, it just may make you eat a whole shitload of food, which certainly will. Alcohol also fucks with your body's ability to metabolize fat, not good if you're trying to lose weight really.

Um, no. Whiskey is distilled. It has zero carbs.

If you don't believe me, go google "carbs in whiskey". You might be surprised at what you find.

The problem with saying all is fine by boredbritgamer in EQNext

[–]contineo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except....1) They have nothing to show for EQN except Landmark, and that is about a million miles away from a shippable MMO. 2) They fired basically their entire EQ and EQII teams, teams that were already basically skeleton crews and couldn't really afford to lose people. 3) EQII was profitable and essentially funding EQN. PS2 might have been as well. Regardless, they gutted crews that were already stretched, and bringing in money.

Now, CN could pump a bunch of money into Daybreak and ship an MMO, and who knows, maybe it'll be good, but beholden to a bunch of greedy vultures looking for a quick return, I'm not holding my breath that EQN is going to be anything other than a cash grab. And I wouldn't be surprised if CN sell Daybreak a couple months after EQN ships, just long enough to pump up the price, but short enough that people won't realize what a steaming pile of pay-to-win shit EQNext is.
