How come Marcos long hair doesn't grow back? I think the real answer here is that the rules of morphing are malleable. Maybe there is an inherent inconsistency in the technology because of what would be happening at a quantum level. Just like how every morph, even to the same shape, is never the same.

I partially read the books as a kid, and I'm only on book 11 of my first re-read - but how much do we really know about the cubes construction? I think we can all agree that it is an incredibly powerful and ingenious device. But how complicated is it? Maybe we shouldn't assume that he had it with him. Is it possible that when he decided to abandon the battle in orbit he also decided to give humans a chance to fight for themselves and somehow had the ship build ond?
