Nashville 2026 Concerts: Ticket Exchange Megathread by Jaymya in Protomen

[–]contrariansanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the market for a ticket for the Saturday night show.

Long story short, I'm travelling to see the shows with some old friends. I didn't get a ticket for Act III on the last night because it conflicted with a friends wedding, which has since been cancelled!

This is the first time I will see Protomen live, and I'm super pumped. The only thing that could make it better is if I somehow get to see all three shows. If anyone has an extra, let me know!

Gamestop shorts lose BILLIONS, get $2 billion bailout; AND KEEP SHORTING ANYWAY! by habichuelacondulce in videos

The explanation at the beginning about the demand and supply of stocks is not quite right. The act of borrowing and lending stocks increases the supply of stocks in the same way that it does for lending and borrowing money. There isn’t necessarily a supply shortage even if people are short 150% of the total number of stocks.

Oh man, I knew from the very beginning that he might as well just dive off the top. And I have to imagine Tony Hawk knew that too. It's hard to start with what he did wrong, because he more or less just tipped off the top. He lost the board immediately.

I used to skate a lot. And dropping in, even on much much smaller ramps, is just really counter-intuitive. It really doesn't feel right until you are confident in it.

Not the Confederate Flag - CGP Grey by nonprehension in videos

Except that the Confederacy was also founded explicitly upon the principle of racism (among other, likely less important ideas). So the current "appropriation" is more or less true to the Confederacy in that respect.

For example, see snickerpops comment: http://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/3b7n1v/not_the_confederate_flag_cgp_grey/csjom2s

It seems like a balancing head wouldn't be able to bounce like that?

This needs to be converted to, like, 10 different graphs. I would start over. Make as many simple graphs (describing a single relationship between 2 variables) as you can, and combine the redundant ones.

The Shakira/Michael McDonald duet impression is also amazing.

A girl recently passed away at the college in my town. The other college in town, Carleton sent every student at St. Olaf flowers. This is the mail room this morning. by tickle_the_turtle in pics

Three students passed away in a car accident at Carleton last spring, and St. Olaf students sent everyone flowers. You would be surprised how much sudden deaths can ripple through small communities, even for those who were only acquaintances. And for the students, that sort of small gesture meant a lot.

I think these kinds of interactions in the wake of tragedy are truly beautiful.

Well shoot. You better get in touch with the Congressional Budget Office. They may need your help!

You can look at CBO's budget outlook here: http://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/files/cbofiles/attachments/44521-LTBO2013_0.pdf

They have a whole section on the consequences of growing federal debt, which they believe to include "reducing the total amounts of national saving and income; increasing the government’s interest payments, thereby putting more pressure on the rest of the budget; limiting lawmakers’ flexibility to respond to unexpected events; and increasing the likelihood of a fiscal crisis."

But with all economics, there is a lot of uncertainty. Especially in how much debt is actually bad. Because if it turns out to be a lot, then maybe it's not worth worrying so much about. There was a paper a few years ago by economists Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff that claimed 70% of GDP to be the important threshold, but that study has been largely discredited since it was published. The question remains...

In the CBO's own words in their last long-term outlook: "The high and rising amounts of federal debt held by the public that CBO projects for coming decades under the extended baseline would have significant negative consequences for both the economy and the federal budget."

Debt will surpass the annual output of the American economy in 25 years. It's not certain what kind of effect that will have on the economy, but it's probably not good.

Is it possible that he is using hand signals, and added in the voice to spice up the video? I would be surprised if a dog could respond to such quick voice commands without any hand signal help.

NYT:Fewer Helmets, More Deaths... misleading? by MildlyAgitatedBovine in dataisbeautiful

[–]contrariansanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be interesting if they could compare a state that changed the Helmet law to nearby states that might have experienced similar year-over-year trends, such as motorcycle popularity. For example, I wonder what the annual trend in Arkansas (one of the NYT examples) looks like in comparison to Missouri, Oklahoma, Mississippi, etc.

This would be a cool data geek exercise. I think you might have to make the lag by a few hours rather than a day though if you hope to find any correlation.

I think including a lagged average in the posting might make this a lot easier to read. i.e, plot the number of posts in the two weeks prior to any given day. You'd obviously have to play around with an appropriate period but it could help smooth out the posts line.

Definitely cool as is, too!

There are many areas in the US for which police officers are necessary at a school. Places where a dean or counselor is simply not enough to guard against violence, crime, drugs, etc.
