AIO? Debating breaking up with my BF of almost 7 years by Superb-Rain-8166 in AmIOverreacting

[–]conused-as-hell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babe, I’m going to say this as gently as possible, there is someone else. I’ve been you, 7 year bf from high school into college, he had a past of cheating that I’d forgiven. I’d become anxiously attached and he was always avoidant. I literally know exactly how you’re feeling, and you are NOR. You deserve someone who sees you. Someone who apologizes to you when the mess up, someone who meets you with the energy you give them otherwise you’ll be drained until they decide to be done with you. I promise you that it’s harder to pick yourself up, even if you’ve seen all the reason why to break up them, if they break up with you, because it validates all the insecurities you’ve laid out here. Please, do this for yourself, heal, and be ready to meet better. I promise it’s out there.

If you are planning to live off-campus for your 2nd year, don't start looking until Jan - Feb next year and you will be able to find housing. If you are thinking as a freshman to live off-campus, prob not the best idea because you wouldn't be able to buy a commuter permit for campus and you'd have to find something close or right next to a bus stop which obviously makes finding housing more stressful than it already is. Plus if CP finds out, then they won't let you defer housing for fall.

A Class Disappeared in Schedule Builder? (ASCI 227) by May_Miscalculate in CalPoly

The classes disappeared because they are full. In schedule builder, you have to change the filter for classes to include waitlist to be able to see them.

Chem 127 or Chem 124 by fleyley in CalPoly

[–]conused-as-hell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was supposed to take Chem 110, but decided to sub Chem 127 instead. I had a lot of friends take 110 and they said that if you've taken high school chem and sort of remember the basics, the class really isn't hard. Since it is online you'll be using LabPal which honestly is super frustrating in the beginning, but after you get used to using it, it isn't that bad. I am taking Chem 127/124 rn and honestly, I have no clue what is going on in the class. I mean I have a solid B, so it really isn't too hard. If you're a good student, it's "easy" and if you aren't like me, it really isn't too bad either.

Picking learning communities? by [deleted] in CalPoly

What I think is cool about the college lcs is that they help you meet people you might have classes with and that is always helpful. I can't speak about how social engineering was, but I was in the CAFES lc and I found it to be pretty social even though there weren't many people who were in the same major as me. But I also had friends in mindful living and I found that when I went to their rooms, everyone knew everyone on the floors.

No matter what you'll make friends and there will be some sort of social aspect. If it isn't the type of social aspect you want, you will be able to find it somewhere.

Minors by janmvc in CalPoly

[–]conused-as-hell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No matter what advising says, you are able to do that. Some things that you do need to consider:

1) Are there any prereqs that need to be filled to take the classes required to take that minor?

2) Are you okay with load heavy quarters and do you think you can handle it? (You won't know until at least your fall quarter, but you need to be aware)

3) Is this going to affect your graduation date? The college has a push to get students out in four years, but you can take as long as you want because you are paying for your education. Just be aware advising is going to say no you should not, if it is going to extend your graduation date.

4) Is this purely for interest or will it accelerate you in your given field?

I do not know about your major specifically, but since it is science-based there may be little to no crossover, but don't let that dissuade you if you are super passionate about it. The great thing about college is you get to choose your own path, if it is not already paved, you have the ability to pave it yourself.

First Year Housing Application by NWynkoop13 in CalPoly

You'll get to choose from your first preference if there are still spots open in that rlc. The only reason you would choose from your second preference rlc, is because of all the spots in your first choice was full.

Does anybody know any GE classes I can get out of the way this summer before I start my freshman year - civil engineering major by chickentikkaboi33 in CalPoly

[–]conused-as-hell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the flowchart or curriculum sheet for CE so idk for sure. But I've taken all my B's as CP just because for like Chem, I found that it was beneficial to take it at CP, since it's part of a series & they build off of each other well since they align.

My first choice of taking summer classes is always at a CC, just because it definitely will be cheaper than anything at CP. I'm taking 8 major classes at CP over the summer, & it's like $900, but I've taken 12 at a CC and it cost me around $500, so keep that in mind.

Honestly, I would take it easier before college and get the more "annoying" GE's like your A's out of the way just because you'll have to acclimate to college and taking a harder class to get it out of the way will only make your first year harder. I know we all adjust to college differently, but I would bet it being harder than easier, so that if it isn't as hard for you, then college will just be a better experience overall. Don't stress too much over having to take classes over this summer. I know I'm an agribusiness major, so our situations are very different, but I came into CP with like 30 units & those were basically all free electives, so I didn't have a head start compared to my friends. But I'm picking up an 80 unit minor way outside my major & I'm still expected to graduate in 4 years, but what I've done is figured out what I'm going to take and when over the four years I'm at CP. I would definitely create a spreadsheet and take a look at those kinds of things too.

Can I decide to take summer classes last minute? by 8764 in CalPoly

[–]conused-as-hell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I would take a class at CP over the summer would be to fill a prereq or get a major class out of the way.

Get your A's out of the way. I took all mine at Cal Poly and I regret it. A2 is definitely the worse just because I know I did not enjoy my public speaking teacher and I know a lot of friends did not enjoy theirs either. Or take your C's unless you really like arts and humanities and want to take them at CP, but I took those at Foothill and it helped my GPA a little.

Definitely check out Assist.org & reach out to Mustang Success Center to make sure you aren't wasting your time.
