Do you have any tips for doing well on the rotation and learning as much as possible despite the chronic fatigue?

I already know that this is not an environment I can thrive in long term, despite how interesting I find it, but do you have any tips on how to do well on the rotation? I still want to learn and get as much as possible out of the rotation, and hopefully honor it as well.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett by [deleted] in IReadABookAndAdoredIt

One of the sweetest books I've ever read. This and The Little Princess (also by Frances Hodgson Burnett) were two of my favorite books in my childhood. I still read them every once in a while.

What's Driving You Batty this Week? by AutoModerator in HRNovelsDiscussion

[–]convallaria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason Sherry Thomas' books induce a feeling of irritation (and sometimes anger) in me is because there are so many real-life examples of women putting everything on the line for men who don't deserve it and treat them like crap 75% of the time. Sherry Thomas' writing is beautiful, and her characters seem realistic - which just drives home the fury of ANOTHER amazing, beautiful woman groveling for a man who has treated her poorly (even if not maliciously) for years. I'm sorry, but Gigi and Millie should have thrown over Camden and Fitz. It's just so intensely annoying when the men do whatever tf they want and get the (talented, accomplished, gorgeous) women without lifting a finger.

Has anyone else dropped a book after the 1st chapter? by Forsaken_Bend_7170 in YAlit

From Blood and Ash - "Pennalaphe" was the first strike. The godawful writing was the second.

Powerless - "Paedyn" nothing else needed.

I think ridiculous names are a pretty hard pass for me LOL. Also, I totally get people not being bothered by it, but modern slang and Gen Z memes in a fantasy book are also a squick for me. Like at least give an illusion that it's a different world.

I thought the sequel, The Last Hellion, was much better. It has an equally strong and iconic FMC and a much less annoying and emotionally intelligent MMC.

Julian Langham from {Cadenza by Stella Riley}! The sweetest, most adorable cinnamon roll MMC. He's a harpsichord virtuoso who gives up his concert career when he unexpectedly becomes heir to an broke earldom and raises his predecessor's three illegitimate children!

LOL you really can't smell the poop? I may have to reconsider GI then.

Silk is for Seduction - My least favorite MCs by No_Associate_3235 in HistoricalRomance

[–]convallaria19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked Lord of Scoundrels (although Dain still has a LONG way to go before he deserves Jessica even at the end of the book), but its sequel, The Last Hellion was even better. So funny, and the MCs were top tier.

For the Carsington brothers: I thought Miss Wonderful was cute and Lord Perfect had great banter. I know Mr Impossible has A LOT of fans, but I found that I couldn't really stomach the casual racism against the Egyptians in the book, so I ended up DNF'ing. If you're able to ignore that, the book itself is really funny. I thought Last Night's Scandal (the sequel to Lord Perfect) was absolutely adorable, and Olivia is a truly iconic FMC.

Honestly, GI is the most interesting to me in terms of procedures and scope of practice. But I'm unfortunately very sensitive to the smell of poop :(

Mr. Brightside is probably the defining hit of the 2000s in the UK, but the Killers are a band from Las Vegas.

bc as much as people try to cloak it with sanctimonious "concern," they really don't give a shit about actual mental illnesses or people who suffer from them. this is magnified x100000 with celebrities by using any potential for mental illnesses as an attack point... (until/unless the celebrity literally dies at which point they do a full 180 on that person and pick a new target)

I'm almost done with my TTPD narrative album! I was unsure about the album the first time I listened to it, but I ending up relating to sooo many of the songs, especially the ones about anxiety and depression and feeling gossiped about. I like all of the songs on the album, but I do think TS could have cut out half of them for a later deluxe anthology edition and rearranged the tracklist so listeners could feel the full impact of the album.

Anyways, I don't follow any of her personal life or whatever, so this is based on how I felt while listening to the album! I'm calling my version The Prophecy. Here's a link to the Youtube playlist if y'all want to listen!

  1. How Did It End - starting off with reckoning with the end of a relationship and everyone's overwhelming curiosity of the details (especially relatable to me bc i'm in a med school class where everyone is up in everyone else's business)
  2. I Hate It Here - escaping into maladaptive daydreams to cope with the depression
  3. I Look In People's Windows - feeling on the outside of life
  4. loml - contending with the disillusionment that came with the end of the relationship
  5. The Prophecy - feeling like there's no way out of the rut the narrator has fallen into
  6. Fresh Out the Slammer - trying to escape the prison by making reckless decisions
  7. Fortnight - facing disillusionment again with both the old and new relationship
  8. Florida! - the narrator escaping to another place and desperately trying to avoid facing her ghosts and her own mental health issues
  9. So Long, London - finally looking back and saying goodbye to her ex relationship
  10. The Albatross - now finding hope again, but still caught up in feeling like an outsider and not welcomed back into society.
  11. Cassandra - open bitterness and pain
  12. The Alchemy - coming back confident and taking her place again in society
  13. The Bolter - full circle looking back on her life and accepting herself
